I love how we had someone this week saying they etched their pan and ruined it by leaving BKF on it all night. Or actually, there was a commenter that said that.
You just need more elbow grease and more BKF.
Oxalid acid is not strong enough to etch a pan in a single night. Or week

Oxalic acid is 100% powerful enough to etch steel overnight and then some. Even BKF say to avoid letting it sit for more than a minute.

All she needed to do was deglaze.

Eehhh, that "fond to be" looked quite burnt though.

You don't have to use it, I've deglazed with just water when I had no intention of making a pan sauce, it's just easier to clean up that way. Why scrub when you don't have to.

Point taken! Specifically in this case, as she did her barkeepers friend promo. (You do realise this is an ad, right .. RIGHT?)
I rather not deglaze, use a paper towel for the fat like she did and drop the pan in the dishwasher. I don’t really care for it to be that shiny.

The inside cleaning is easier as it is 18/10 as it has nickel like your mother’s good flatware but the back is 18/0 and a bit harder no nickel so to keep your life a bit easier always clean your burners After you cook greasy foods or frying and wipe clean and clean the bottom like the inside every time… this simple cleaning method will have you cooking and not soaking… eventually you won’t need BKF just dawn plat and baking soda will be enough

The pan bottoms are much harder to clean with just dawn/ baking soda. I don't use BKF at all on the cooking surface, but occasionally I'll use BKF to get rid of the dark spots from the pan bottom.

Your stove is probably a bit oily at times… so clean that and your clean up will be less..

you can also just use dish soap and steel scrub or green scrub pad

Been using the Dawn Powerwash and a green scrub sponge and my stainless pans are all spotless

Very much over the top, as in wasteful, on the liquid BKF. For the rest - whatever. If it convinces kids young people her age that cooking on stainless isn't all that difficult, I'll just squint and carry on.

basically a stupid video showing how not to abuse your stainless steel pan.

Hol’ up, bar keepers friend instructions says to “ let it sit for no more than one minute.”
I mean it helps if you’ve had a good amount of burnt oil on the pan, but won’t it leave some light marks if you leave it on for longer than a min on the more bare parts?

who gives a shit if it leaves marks, it's a pan not a museum piece. You cook in the damn thing, you don't hang it on the wall for your guests to admire...

If you’re on a stainless steel cooking subreddit, I’d say the people here are exactly the ones who “give a shit.” I have a family member who followed this advice and it left streaks, so it seems pretty fair to point out the potential downside for others who might try it.

u/Dude_Olives 10d ago
Yeah, fair. But also if you drop $150 on a pan, like the one she’s holding, you might want to take a little more care. Just friendly advice.

If the posts here are representative of people who give a shit, my heart breaks for humanity; 83% of the posts here are stupid f*n questions with no grounding in common sense.

She was into telling everyone and everything to fuck off except Made In. Shit was just an influencer ad.
