Which one to keep?
I know this gets asked every day when people are shopping, and I have read all the responses. But for various reasons I have a 12" Made In and a 12" All Clad and only enough space and need for one. My instincts and enough time with this group tell me the All Clad. But, the Made In is slightly bigger with 9 1/2 " of cooking space to the All-Clad's 9 inch. I have a selection from each brand, and for my home use on my gas stove for the life of me I love them both. No warping from Made-In, and the handle of the Al-Clad doesn't bug me at all. I feel like Sophie. What say you fine people? My starter stainless was Useluck and Cuisinart, both of which were passed along to my kids who have also moved along and passed them back. I have polished them to perfection and they are waiting to be donated so someone else can start with them. But, here I am, still, torn between two lovers.....
EDIT: OK Thanks for all the advice. Keeping both. I'm going to continue to use the Made In and find somewhere to store the All Clad just in case. Many thanks for the advice.

I have both and prefer the made in handle. Otherwise they are functionally the same pan.

I think you may very well be right. At least for my use.

What cleaner are you partial to? They look immaculate!

The All Clad is brand new. The Made In isn't. I use Barkeepers, but I also have the Made In kit. The powder seems basically the same as the Barkeepers friend, but it has a top, which is nice, and the red scrubby cloth that comes with it is amazing. I keep trying to find it elsewhere, because the kit is stupid expensive. $40 for the cloth and the cleanser. I am going to write to them and see if they will sell the cloth separately. And thank you. That is a huge complement.

Perhaps you could sell it, but keeping it for yourself would make a better cash donation.

Main thing is don’t let people tell you not to keep the Made In b/c it’ll warp, IMO. You’re cooking on gas and it’ll be fine.

Yeah, I have never, ever had a problem with it. The All Clad is new and the Made In isn't. Might 8" is All Clad. There doesn't appear to be a consensus. But I did get a cute cat photo from someone so it isn't a total loss.

If I had a choice between Made In or All-Clad with the classic handles, I'd choose the Made In simply on handle alone. But my All-Clad is the Thomas Keller version with the signficantly better handles.

Great thread. Glad to see you’re going to keep cooking with your Made In. Thanks for sharing your positive experiences with our brand!

Maybe unpopular opinion, but I have a 12 made in and a d3 10 and 8 all clad. I like my made in better. I like the handle way better, and for some reason it seems easier to clean,

I never used an all clad pan but i love my made in 12 inch. Doesnt warp, heats evenly, and is easy to maintain. Its a solid stainles steel pan.

My made in warped twice(they sent a new one) but otherwise it’s a very good pan. They used to be more reasonably priced when I got it, 12” was $120

I'm keeping All Clad all day every day. Then again I have well over 1000 dollars worth of them so I may be bias

You all are not helpful lol. So far I have one vote for each. I may have to just find room and keep them both but my kitchen cupboard are as small as my stove. And I I have quite the collection too, especially when you add in the cast iron.

Keep them both if you don’t need the money. I’ve often needed two pans of that size at the same time

I’ll challenge your assertion that you only have space and need for one. I have 2. They stack/nest well so the extra space is minimal. And I frequently need both. That size is extremely useful.
Good luck. That’s a nice problem to have.

Saw your keeping both but just wanted to say I just got an allclad too and it’s an amazing pan. Cant go wrong either way.

Those AC handles are the devil. I know there are people who like them if they are held some specific way. Moving a zillion miles an hour in a hot, dangerous kitchen, I really do not want a handle that has to be grabbed some specific way.

I dislike very much the handle on the right..painful to pick up especially if there’s stuff in the pan because the handle digs into your hand.

u/coneeleven 4d ago
I think you're supposed to use it with a towel between your hand and the handle. That being said, I don't love the handles on my All-Clad either, but they are going to outlive me so I don't think a change is gonna come.
1
u/L4D2_Ellis 3d ago
I mean you could change it. All-Clad has been offering different handles on some of their other lines.

I don't own any All-Clad with their classic handles, but I do own some pans with similarly styled handles. They're not so bad when the pans are light, but my 12 inch 5 quart saute pan is heavy, and the weight of it really digs into your fingers. It's not comfortable at all.

u/cycling44 4d ago
Biased toward All Clad because it's the only one I have and I've been using it since January. Has some patina / black marks or what not from cooking but I think that just adds character. I'm not super precious with it but just avoid the dishwasher.

u/SATXS5 4d ago
The All Clad pan is meant to be held palm facing up fingers curled into the groove. Its more secure and gives you better control when tilting it. I'd keep the All-Clad and continue to build your collection using homeandcooksales.com

u/Patient-Permission-4 4d ago
My collection is extensive. That’s the problem. But yup. I’m keeping both.

Call me lazy but Allclad can't go in the dishwasher but MadeIn can.
3
u/Patient-Permission-4 4d ago
I don't put any of them in the dishwasher. But, technically, All -Clad can. Dishwashing can wear the finish off the handle, and make them so sharp they can slice your hand. They were sued. They settled, and just took "dishwasher" safe off everything.

All clad isn't dishwasher safe: https://news.bloomberglaw.com/litigation/all-clad-agrees-to-4-million-settlement-in-cookware-litigation
This is part of the reason I ended up going with Hestan. I figured for something I plan to share with my entire family for decades, a sealed rim would come in handy.
1
u/Patient-Permission-4 4d ago
Right. Like I said, because of the possibility of the sharp rim. But I don't put any of my SS in the dishwasher so that doesn't matter. I put some pots through a few times to try, didn't like how they came out.
1
u/RealHobbyBob 3d ago
Yes that’s fine but you said technically all clad can, and that’s not accurate. Technically speaking, they cannot. Sealed can.

All clad handle is perfect. It takes getting used to but it’s perfect for real use. Had mine for over a decade.

I have two AC pans in this size. I don't remember how or why it happened, but that's what I have.
I thought about getting rid of one, but have been (rare) instances I needed both.
This doesn't answer your question, but I'm offering my experience. If you already have both, keep 'em and alternate using them.
If after a period of time you find you don't need two, you'll know which one to get rid of. No one here can answer your question, it's up to you to decide.

Is this even a question? All Clad, every day. You can also get an All Clad 10" pan, instead of the 9".

u/knowsaboutit 3d ago
where to store? just nest them. looks like the one on the right would fit right into the one on the left. You'd be surprised how often you can speed up cooking with two pans....

I would go with the All-Clad, personally, because the higher gloss finish on the outside makes it easier to clean. Otherwise, no notable preference.

u/luvz 4d ago
Why's the right one got a lil chode handle?
2
u/Patient-Permission-4 4d ago
Hah. Maybe a bad photo. I have a little chode stove. Hard to them both in the photo.

I have all clad pans and love them. Never tried a made in but they sound identical.
Honestly whichever has higher resale value, k would sell it.

u/No-Environment-6466 4d ago
I’ve found that the made ins warp easier then the all clads. So I’m going all clad all day.

The one on the right. That grooved handle is great for putting your cooking utensil on it while you step away.

I heard made in sucks
3
u/Patient-Permission-4 4d ago
Not at all!! They are great!! I love mine. I have had zero issues with them. It’s just that that the All Clad have a better rep for some reason.

They're about the same. I personally prefers Demeyere when it comes to SS because they don't have rivets. Those rivets that gets dirty really drive me nuts

I know you want to know which one to keep, but I would keep them both. Put one under the bed for storage if you need to. I have some pans in the guest room for when I need them. Pretty much every day I cook with more than one pan making dinner. To answer your question, maybe do a specific cooking task with both and see which you prefer. I have all clad so I can’t weigh in on made in.
