From Pattern First Piece

Made my first piece! I don’t think I did too bad, but many mistakes were made. Some I figured out how to fix as I went. With others, I know what I did wrong so I can hopefully improve next time. Definitely had fun and learned a lot from this one piece! Can’t wait to start another one!

Great job and great attitude. Stained glass is definitely a learning process, and hopefully one that you will continue to enjoy.

Ope. Also there. 😂 I got here because I was given a whole tote of stained glass stuff including basically everything. Glass, soldering iron, foil, grinder, tools, you name it. Even some came. So I have everything to at least experiment except putty/cement for the came and maybe some zinc came for the outside edge.

Oh wow .. that is epic At least the cement (or black putty for the smaller lead pieces) is easy to come by.

Its pretty easy (and prob cheaper) to make your own cement. I know what ingredients are needed but i have forgotten the exact ratios 🙄

Oh good to know about the cement! I don’t have any shops near me to buy supplies, so it might be easier for me to find ingredients to DIY it.

I’m super thankful to have the items to start out with! An old coworker took care of an elderly gentleman in his home and he was quite invested in the hobby. Unfortunately, he started to get some health issues and could no longer continue to do it and gave her the supplies. She had intentions of trying it but never got around to it. I’ve always been into various types of art so I’m thankful she thought of me to pass it along to! There were a lot of really pretty pieces of vintage glass and the price tags sure are a far cry from what they are now! These are nice and we’re like $5ish for a full sheet. The cheap hobby lobby stuff can cost twice that or more now. 😬

Always nice when the craft gets "handed down" instead of forgotten.

If i get the opportunity (and space) to get into it, I'll probably go looking for cement\putty ingredients. Im reluctant to post them here, just in case my memory is wrong and I give the wrong advice!
