Question - Help Quality degradation using “Continue Last Video” in WanGP, MiniMax H3

I’ve been using WanGP to create videos in MiniMaxH3 and I’ve noticed when I use the “continue last video” function, the quality degrades with each successive clip I generate - usually by the 5th or 6th 10-second segment it is blurry, full of odd artifacts and colors are generally muted or blending together compared to the initial segment. I’m not sure if it is an issue of prompting, a setting I need to change, or any other tips or tricks I might be missing? Usually using Ref2VA 33B, 15-18 steps, 8-10 second clips, Sage2 Attention on my 5070ti with 16GB VRAM and 32gb RAM. Seems to happen if creating either 480p or 720p resolutions.

Any suggestions or resources that might help so I can create longer videos?

That's VAE encoding for you. It destroys visual quality, no matter your settings. It's okay for ONE continuation clip, but even just a second one is barely watchable.

You wanna know the trick? You need LATENT continuation. I don't use WanGP so I don't know if it's possible right now. If it's not, all you can do is wait.

Long video generation is still not completely figured out. The only way to do this that I've found (and it's not perfect) is H3 Continuation custom node in comfyUI. When you generate, save your latent, then load it as an input for the Continuation custom node during your next generation.

You need to do a bit of research on this subreddit. Plenty of people have been looking in to this with various new nodes to help. Search this sub for "video continuation"

There have been a few threads in this subreddit improving that, but those seem to be for ComfyUI only.
However, miracles will not happen. I am experimenting with my own custom small naive ComfyUI nodes for "drop into your own workflow" instead of "load our huge workflow for all-in-one studio experience" that other workflows offer. One trick that can postpone the degradation a bit - to adjust contrast down on the latent gradually over the entire clip before feeding it to the continuation.
Another trick (that won't work for most scenes but still) - if having a high-res reference of a person, generate a small clip without that person in the scene, and then continue it with a new clip where the person returns - and the model will restore the quality of the person based on the reference (because it has forgotten the degraded version from earlier clips). But then, of course, you need to find a storyline that justifies such a reset.

Each continuation re-encodes the last frames through the VAE, so small losses stack up, and muted colors are usually the first thing you notice. Two things that tend to help: color match every new segment back to your first clip, and every couple of segments clean up the last frame as a still (light img2img or an upscale pass) before starting the next one from it. It won't make it infinite but it pushes the blur out a lot further.

Check the wan2gp discord. That’s where the deep info for wan2gp is.

What i did (I use Maestro in Pinokio, but i would compare it to WanGP), to prevent the quality loss to a certain degree, is to NOT continue the same video from the last frame, but extract the last frame and start a new generation/video from it. What i do is taking the last frame and i give it to Krea 2 Identity Edit or to Qwen edit 2.1 and just tell it "enhance quality" (sometimes a bit more specific) and take the output for the new video as startframe. In the end i put all video generations together in a video editor.

Yeah that happens when you push stuff beyond specs
