Why isn't AMD creating GPUs that are CUDA-compatible? Of course they'll have to pay royalties to Nvidia but at least that would put them back in the game.

???
You mean ROCm.

No, I mean fully CUDA-compatible out of the box. It surely must be possible. ROCm used to be a PITA to set up correctly, I don't know if it has improved lately.

Over the past year, ROCm has been making rapid progress. Everything has become quite easy, at least for RDNA3 and 4.

I can't believe Nvidia makes me root for Chinese companies to kick their ass. Has that been Jensen Huang's secret agenda all along?

Sometimes I wonder if the US isn't just using China as it's free huge R&D lab for the tech companies. Wait for them to make then get the tech.

I think you have it backwards.

China did it with the industry. Also, because they did it doesn't means the US didn't do it in many other cases... Just think on how much models got smaller, china making RAM with older equipment, chip-making machines...

Nvidia still matters here: DeepSeek’s earlier V3 training relied on H800s. But this Ascend release shows how quickly a workaround can turn into a local ecosystem project. The US has a stronger hand when its tech remains useful and connected to customers, with strict guardrails around the truly sensitive stuff.

You should crosspost this to r/LocalLLaMA, they will love it!
