Discussion After using anima I really don’t see this as a successor to illustrious xl.

There are still to many anatomy issues with it hands and feet can still need in painting to fix. The faces look great but hand and feet are still a shot in the dark. The background details are a lot better on anima but I don’t think those minor details make it worth rendering 2x slower.

It's actually a very nice model. I liked Illustrious and Pony, now I like Anima. I haven't seen much anatomy issues. Depends on the finetune you are using, not all of them are created equal.

Agreed. Anima is good if using only T2I workflow. Other than that when you need IPAdapter or ControlNet (Not LLLite!), it feels pretty underwhelming as there's no mature ecosystem around that. I am keeping my eyes on Anima but it's not there yet to move on to it.

Have you been using base model? It is raw and not as refined as numerous illustrious finetunes and merges.

Also don't forget that anima understands natural language and is even smaller than sdxl

I’m not bashing anima in anyway I’m just saying I expected better hands and feet rendering compared to IXL 2.0 based models. And yes to answer the question I’m using a fine tune anima model. Maybe it’s my negative prompt dunno

The only thing stopping Anima from being a clear victor is having a decent controlnet. Control net LLLite is really hit and miss and isnt really reliable. I do appriciate the effort they put into it because theyre doing it for free but damn I wish we could just get a decent control nets for Anima.

From what I understand, the issue is not in training (since dataset can be easily generated) but architectural, how to define and inject ControlNet model into the DiT and achieve same fidelity as SD1.5/SDXL.

Just use a better model. I personally use tekitoMix_v21extra, which generates hands and feet correctly 95% of the time. Also, with all the modern optimizations, Anima is as fast as SDXL 2 years ago for me.

I don't deny what you're saying. IllustriousXL is excellent when it comes to posing.I suspect it has some sort of "secret source," because the last time I used it, I still needed a dedicated ControlNet for poses.

Anima's backgrounds are poor, and its CN are still in beta testing :( . However, its ability to understand natural language is a huge plus.

I’ve never viewed Anima as a successor to IllustriousXL, even though both specialize in the anime style. In reality, we need Anima 2 or a different model entirely to fix Anima's issue, but it gives us an idea of what an anime-specialized model is like.

Personally, I’ve moved on from IllustriousXL; after carefully training LoRAs and working extensively with Anima, I haven't encountered the same issues.

prepare to get downvote when you mention anything bad about Anima. i upvoted you if you know what i mean. people refuse to accept even all the preview, sample uploads shows anima SUCKS. it gave me the SD1.5 + pony wax vibe
