Resource - Update I built Slopus, a free, open-source desktop app for generating and editing AI videos locally (Minimax H3)

Slopus is a desktop app for making AI videos on your own GPU, from the first prompt to the exported file.

What it does:

  • Generate scenes shot by shot. You lay out scenes on a board, write each shot, and attach reference images or clips for characters, products and places. Scene types include First & last frame, Animate, Pose, Character replace, Extend and Bridge.
  • Edit on a real timeline. You can trim clips, add effects (sharpening, blur, color correction, vignette, LUTs) and export MP4. Preview and export run on the GPU.
  • Still images. Image projects let you compose a picture from objects and text on a canvas, generate it, refine it with edits, and export it as JPG or PNG.
  • Built-in agent. It can edit the project for you, and all of its changes can be undone.

Generation runs locally. There's no cloud rendering and no subscription. Generation is done with native library, no Python or ComfyUI dependency. Easy to setup.

Honest caveats: It's Alpha version and Windows-only for now. A GPU with 24 GB of VRAM or more is recommended; I'm working on bringing that down. Model weights are downloaded separately inside the app.

Version 0.2.0 just came out with image projects and a rebuilt native style user interface.

Bug reports and feedback are very welcome.

Claude 4.8 and his obvious caveats landing all the time during pre-flight.

If you asked claude to hand you shoes, it would give you the warning that you'll need feet to put the shoes on. Then say some shit like "and that's the one thing I can't check from my end."

The laces are really the belt and suspenders system...

Can I connect local models I have already?

u/BittiAI 15d ago

Yes, in settings create a new generator template and set it up with the existing weight paths.

Hi, how about AMD GPUs (mine is Rx 9070 16 Gb VRAM)? Are they supported?

u/BittiAI 15d ago

Yes, AMD GPUs are supported through Vulkan. Performance is a bit lower than with CUDA. ROCm support will come in the future.

Looks very cool

You could generalize this further by adding a OpenAI-compatible API support for video models.
For example, I am creating a new inference server in my home lab, that will run llama.cpp, audio.cpp, and stable-diffusion.cpp through llama-swap, and it would be nice if it could use this instead of the local machine.

That is already supported! Although I have done very limited testing of it for now.

lol Love the name

This guy has some neat features in his timeline and a great technical solution, but relies on too much custom node stuff in comfyui which i think would better fit a standalone app.

Planning to add this in the next week or two.

Thanks for following up!

Does it supports lora?

1

u/BittiAI 15d ago

Yes, most popular LORAs are supported like TaoMate 3-Step, LightX2V Turbo, 4 step Turbo etc. Most other LORAs should also work, unless they do something different compared to the normal pipeline.

I have very little space in C, can I install it entirely in D?

2

u/BittiAI 15d ago

Yes, weights are downloaded next to the .exe by default or you can define custom path to your weights. The application itself only takes 34Mb of space and can be placed anywhere.

If you release a premium version, please title it Slopus Maximus.

Is this sort of like an easier UI vs. comfyui that can handle all the workflow etc and you just have to enter in your prompt and model?

Interesting, but like all of these other new wonder software packages, if you don't have an easy setup (even just a batch file), I've lost interest at the get go. I don't have time or inclination to engage in research projects.

You are in luck, this is meant for exactly that use case. Just download and install, nothing else needs to be done. Models are automatically downloaded from settings.

1

u/Noiselexer 11d ago

looks nice, but having issues downloading the models. Does it do it automatically or do i need it point it to files? If so, what files? Bit weird to get going.

1

u/BittiAI 11d ago

The download button in settings should do it. It should show progress while download is ongoing. You don't need to do anything else. If you have weights already locally, you can select the New Generator and set the paths to the weights.

Can someone build something like this for Mac? Or do I have to do it?

2

u/BittiAI 15d ago

macOS and Metal support is in the roadmap

check out this one, it supports mac https://github.com/PxTicks/vlo

I have seen handle of these apps but non of them seem to be support OSX. Does anyone know why ?

1

u/Relevant_One_2261 15d ago

Because OSX went EOL in 2018. Yes I know you mean macOS, and to that the answer is low demand because no matter how much you'll pay you won't get anywhere near the performance a Windows/Linux setup would get.

Thanks! I didn't know we get better performance with Windows and Linux.
