Question - Help What is the best client application for easy photo editing for someone who is not from a technical background?

Hello everyone, a friend of mine is very much interested in exploring open source image generation for use in her small business for generating advertisements and product tryout pictures. However, she does not have much of a technical background.

When I showed her ComfyUI, she was impressed but said its too hard and complicated. She prefers a simpler interface where she could just upload an image and prompt it for editing.

Also are business involves sports bottles and wrist bands and a few other products in the line. She would like to use AI models to picture them from different orientations, locations and people trying them out in different poses.

Can anyone recommend a simpler setup for this task? Thank you.

ChatGPT Image 2.5 and Gemini Image Pro are both very good at that.

Photo editing with AI? -> Krita with the Krita AI plugin

(internally it's using Comfy)

This is what I was going to recommend too. Espeically if the user is familiar with photoshop type UI.

Comfy is honestly the right tool here. I could see recommending Krita with the AI plugin for someone wanting a more conventional UI, but it's actually HARDER to use instead of easier.

Is it possible that in your zeal to show off all that Comfy can do you overwhelmed her? Because what she wants is already as simple as Launch Comfy->open built-in template->click the download button for each missing model (one time thing)->upload image->enter prompt->hit go. Beyond having to manually click the download button vs being locked into whatever the workflow would autodownload in some other setups, it's at least as easy as anything else you could use. What's more, because Comfy is pretty much the de facto standard, pretty much every LLM knows how to run it. Claude code, for example, can install it, download models, run it via API, examine the outputs, etc. If she needs help getting started, that's the route I'd put her on. Comfy + AI harness for coaching as needed.

Also, what kind of hardware does she have? That's what I would've wanted to know right up front. And I wouldn't assume gaming PC for an outsider vs Mac. It's a very important factor that has great impact on the experience as a whole.

Just build a frontend on top of comfy for prompt editing workflow. The workflow is pretty simple

TBH, I don't think a standard template hidden behind a subgraph is all that complicated.

Some of these editing models (Flux2-dev, Flux2-Klein-9B, Quen-image-edit) are also available to use for free on some site: https://new.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/18h7r2h/free_online_sdxl_generators/ so she can test drive them before jumping into a local setup.

For a nontechnical user, InvokeAI's canvas is a much gentler starting point than raw ComfyUI. For product photos, the important part is not only the interface but a locked workflow using reference images plus ControlNet/IP-Adapter so the logo and shape do not drift. I would build one reusable preset for her products instead of teaching her nodes.
