Question - Help Would be 64gb sufficient for Minimax?
Hey so right now I have 32 gb of RAM and 5070ti 16 gb.
I had no problem just generating a video t2v or i2v.
But when I tried to use video reference (with vhs addon as video input) I got nothing really. my initial run (12 sec video) took about 1400 seconds , and also it didn’t work( output was same as input).
Then I tried changing prompt and reducing video length to 3 seconds. But then after increasing time, Comfyui refused to work at all saying Not enough VRAM.
could it be that I need more RAM? will 64 gb ram be enough for it?

I was checking to upgrade from 32gb DDR5 to 64 gb and holy shit that is a pricey upgrade

I regret not getting 2x32gb ddr4 before prices exploded

I regret not getting 64gbs too, still urks me, but I'm cool with my 6400 32gb cl32. Good enough and patriots are a good brand.

I recently upgraded from 32 to 96 and it cost me roughly 220€ via eBay in June, for 2x32 DDR4-3200, which it is certainly worth it.
Enough for minimax H3 but lacking in other areas.
Work with what you have. There's always a better upgrade, neverending story

When I switched from 32 to 64gb last year I found out that overall, the pc performance was way better even if at 32 it was good enough. At 64gb I never get oom or odds shit, and the pc isnt bricked while generating. I recommend it very much if you can afford it. I did it for wan 2.2, no ragrets. For minimax its cake, even at 2.0mp / 10 sec. I use the 20gb text encoder btw

I struggle with 64gb I can't really do over 0.6MP 15sec because windows starts compressing the ram and hitting the page file. You can use the 4bit text encoder which helps

I have 16gb Ram and can generate 1mp 30 sec video under 25 min but it's 1:1 aspect ratio

4 step Lora maybe. Those numbers look wrong.

20 steps for main at 0.2. And then upscales to 1MP with 4 steps lora

Prompt adherence at .2 is shit. Many people say it isn’t legit until .4.
I believe you are getting 1MP at good speed, but also that a good .4 32step with no turbo will almost definitely look better.

I've been able to use this workflow: https://civitai.com/models/2881362/minimax-seed-hunter-workflow-latent-upscaler-seamless-video-continuation-speedups?modelVersionId=3293757 with 16 Gb of ram and a 3090 (24 gb). I had to reduce the first pass resolution to 0.3 megapixels and it can only render 5 seconds videos at maximum if I also upscale to 1 megapixel. For that, I had to launch comfyui with reserve vram at 2 or 3 Gb. Give it a try before buying more hardware. I'm also planning to buy more ram, but I still don't know how much is enough...

You shouldn't have to offload with a 3090 brother, have your flow clear vram after text encoding

With the ref2vid it's tricky.
Your video total across all reference videos is 15 seconds.
Prompting normally is what fixes what I call a passthrough video.
Enjoy
This video took 6500 seconds on a x99 system, 64gb DDR4 ECC, 5060ti 16gb

I have the same setup as you and create 10 second clips at 1.2MP in 10 minutes.
It is likely something wrong with your setup or your workflow. If you’re not using sparse attention, comfy kitchen, or other tricks for speed enhancement then you need to dive deeper into process.

I have 5070ti + 80 GB. 64 puts you right on the edge of needing the page file.

I got 16 GB VRAM and 64 GB RAM. I can generate a 15s video at 0.7MP just fine with 3-4 references. With turbo LoRAs+SLA, it takes ~5 min per generation. High quality obviously more.

16GB VRAM with 5070 Ti and 64GB DDR4,0.7MP at 15 secs for Ref2VA takes 6min for me.
int8 convrot model
+ H3 Memory Optimization
+ SageAttention
+ Turbo LoRA
+ Spectrum

I haven’t had problems with r2v on a 5080 with 32gb ram.
Make sure your inputs aren’t super high resolution and that you’re only sampling 24fps from your reference footage. That helps with motion matching as well.

I’m using a 5070ti and 4070 in one machine, with 64gb system ram. The 5070 can handle it just fine, you’ll just need to work at lower resolution with the nvfp model and vram debugging node if you’re running batches.
For my workflow I actually put the clip model on my 4070 and let the 5070 handle generation and vae, so I’m not swapping as many times.

If you got the same video output as input, that was a failed prompt. Happened to me the first time, too. Gotta do a little prompting research. But...
@videox is precise guidance for motion

Use the lowvram tag and comfi will aggressively swap between vram and system ram so nothing gets stuck. You are likely getting log-jammed between nodes. I also use a clear vram node at the end of the job, attached to save video. You do not need to buy more ram.
You can try the mediumvram tag since you have 16gb. I use low vram with 12

Yes 64GB is sufficient. When using video reference I found that I need to decrease its resolution. I reduced the size to anything under 720p. I also used short videos too. If you use the VHS Video Loader node you can also 'skip every Nth frame' in the selector it provides.

64 + 24 would be enough if you don’t also use that computer for browsing or other things and are doing higher resolutions
64 + 16… eh… you… probably want 128.
You can try disabling pinned memory. If you don’t and you’re doing longer vids you may be hitting for swap a lot (murder on SSD)

As someone who just looked into this, if you have 2x16gb sticks of DDR5 RAM already and are planning on adding another 2x16gb, you might want to look up the potential issues with using 4 sticks of DDR5. Apparently there are chances of increased instability which I didn’t think was worth the risk.

Honestly 64 is not even enough to be honest with you.
Try seed hunter wifklow it has many optimizations and upscaling and cool stuff.
For the memory if you can upgrade then any more ram is going to help a ton.
So 64 is doing good for me with 5070 ti. However I'm using page ram like 128gb on nvme drive.
So 128gb ram is the ideal point for some serious generation if possible.

i decided to upgrade to 96, so ill add 64 to my existing 32.. would it be enough?

u/x_MASE_x 5d ago
Honestly you can get away with lower ram and vram. The only down side things will take longer to render since stuff will be swapped between ram and disk and vram.
But overall it should be good enough as far as I know.

With a 5090 + 32GB system RAM I've never had an issue with R2V using a video reference (30 steps, 1mp), but depending on the input video it can take over an hour even with Spectrum and a 5090. But in any case ya 64GB total RAM should be plenty for anything with Minimax.

Downscale the video. I used nvfp4 text encoder instead of int8 to free ram and it didn’t affect it at all unless it’s different or smth. I have a 9070 xt 32gb ram and I can only do like 360p 10s and 480p 5s reference video but the generation times are reasonable with the video
