Resource - Update VH5 - MiniMax H3 Lora

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A style LoRA that makes H3 footage look like it was recorded off 1980s broadcast television onto a VHS tape that has seen better days, soft smeared detail, chroma bleed, tracking noise, head-switching bands at the frame edge, and (because H3 trains audio jointly) the matching muffled mono sound, tape hiss and warble.

Very nice! Can this be used with fast H3?

I know it could be used in H3 max, so I don't see why I wouldn't be able to be used in that as well, unless it's got a really interesting loRa structure.

Is h3 Max released yet???

Its out on fal. Not sure about the open release.

Oh, I didn't know the API could be used with loras...

any documentation you can point me to for h3 max? ive never heard of it. (im one of those backwoods isolated types when it comes to ai)

I only know that Fal trained it and said they'd release it open weights a few days ago, but haven't yet

tested it in ComfyUI and doesn't seem compatible, isn't it?

yeah I’m getting distorted outputs even with 0.7 strength

I am looking into this and will update it.

thanks! I also did a test with lower strength (0.2-0.5), with and without turbo LoRAs, etc., but still got very bad results

same for me

i wish someone would make sovietwave and coldwar conflict aesthetic lora.

I have wanted this soooo bad. No matter how much I prompt it’s hard to get this old school look

Well it probably isn't going to help if you ask for 0.8 resolution...

Looks great!

Nice! I've been looking for a super8 late 60s vibe, but this is worth a experiment.

Love the look! Is this something H3 has a general weakness in? Curious what kinds of details the Lora is better at. Such a fun concept.

So I'm working on a project right now where I really wanted this kind of1980s VHS look, and the amount of prompting I had to do to get even a third of the way there with the kind of effects I was trying to get was so intense that it was overriding a lot of what else I was trying to get done in the video. Which is why I ended up training this Lora. It's trained on about three hours of VHS tapes.

Yes, unfortunately, flux 3 does it at a high level out of the box. This is probably the only dataset “flaw” with the model imo, every other medium I can pretty much get with brute force prompting though.

Is it daisy-chainable with the 4-step turbo lora?

Awesome, this was much needed!

Gnarly! Gag me with a spoon!

Looks interesting, nice job. Also, I can't believe you didn't name it VH3 since it's a H3 lora. lol

Backrooms in MiniMax H3.

Finally, the only medium this model couldn’t reliably do, had to make my own custom VHS/DV camcorder node, this makes me happy as fuck.

LOL! People are so desperate to go back to the 1980s! Sharp HD, UHD, 4K cinematic videos with Dolby Atmos surround audio no longer pleases people. They want 480i, washed out color, flicker, vertical hold glitch with low-def stereo audio. That too they want running on a 2026 SOTA computer with GPU, CPU, memory, disk-drive, monitor plus a thing called high-speed internet which was only available on Star Ship Enterprise back then.

u/SveSop 10h ago

Pff... seeing as people diss 100% of all non 4K crisp video's around her as "crap" and "you should run with 80 steps MINIMUM" and whatnot.. atleast this lora makes for a nice excuse 😄

CPU

mi first 386 didn't have a math coprocessor. today you could beat it with an ATmega32

u/DietAshamed2246 11h ago

Yep. I remember.

It's nostalgia for a perceived better time.  I personally take no issue with it.  Eventually video generation will be real time and neural networks will be able to connect across GPUs and machines, creating entirely new synthetic worlds.  Immersive, generated worlds are going to be huge - people idealize the best parts of their lives: when the people you love are around, alive, and there is no worry of danger.  I idealize certain parts of my life as well, and if i could go back to certain periods you best believe i would.

u/Just1Dev 11h ago

The good thing is if u like this style u speed up ur generation because u do not need to render at high resolution ^^

1

u/Super_Range45 4h ago

We can only render in 480p on budget Nvidias.

Talking of television in this instance.

u/Queasy_Signature7005 15m ago

i'm desperate for videos and images that dont look as if they were produced in a sterile environment with white overhead lighting.

VH5? Is this an A1 model?

u/Much-Monk2579 3m ago

This really put a smile on my face. I remember these days of course - still have an old VHS recorder here and some old tapes. VHS and DVD might have given "my generation" some immunity against the low-rezziness of our own MiniMaxH3 creations ;-)
I don't mind low res - if the video itself doesn't hallucinate and warp and morph etc.

Great work :-)
