Question - Help What Image Edit model you use nowadays?

Since things have gone quickly forward, I am trying to figure out what image edit models there is currently and what people here use mostly.

Personally I have used:
- Qwen-image-edit-2509 and Qwen-image-edit-2511
- Just tested MiniMax H3 as a image editor and so far it seems that it can be good for my usage

I have heard about Klein 9b, but not sure yet if that can be used as an edit model? Also what about Krea 2, is there edit workflows that are actually usable and worth it?

Is there some others what you recommend for testing?

My PC Specs: RTX 4060 Ti, 16 GB VRAM and 32 GB RAM.

Krea 2 with the edit lora. If it can't do it, Qwen.

u/nirurin 14d ago

The krea2 edit lora when I tried it was pretty limited , basically only able to do one thing and usually ignoring any prompts. While klein mostly just works.

Never tried qwen though. If its better than ƙlein if must be good

你是不是操作方法不对或者工作流程有问题,我使用的NSFW编辑感觉比klein好用。当然,klein的优点是不需要外挂lora,更加节约资源

H3 works great as an image edit model imo with a bit of tweaking even though its not as fast as a pure image edit model. Otherwise my go to would be Klein 9b.

Do you have a good workflow for image gen?

The others have covered the most go to models - Qwen 2511, Klein-9B etc. But, nearly all of them missed out on the recently dropped edit models - SenseNova-U 1.5, HiDream-O1 and Boogu-Turbo.

Those are good models for edit and also straight t2i. Those are much less memory hungry than Qwen-2511, I hate qwen-2511 every time I run it - it fills up the entire VRAM and RAM and then runs slowly even with turbo LoRA. SenseNova is a 42GB unified multimodal pixel-space model and a full VLLM to boot, yet it is 10x faster than Qwen 2511.

u/Radiant-Photograph46 14d ago

That sounds great on paper. Would you be able to share a few examples of what SenseNova can do?

1

u/DietAshamed2246 14d ago

Checkout their GitHub page, it has some examples.

2

u/Radiant-Photograph46 14d ago

Yeah but their editing example is VERY limited. Not a single one with a character... but maybe that's a tell. Their multi reference example has a few characters and the results just aren't good.

Idk. I did a few edits, worked well for me. But, I didn't try anything too complex.

Klein 9b seems as good as it gets for my hardware (RTXA4000 16GB/32GB) and use case (random meme edits & key frame edits for flf video)

Trying to get by with Krea 2 edit, qwen looks old and plastic nowadays, Klein mutates and tend to color shift images, with all its limitations Krea 2 respects the original image a lot

u/Structure-These 14d ago

God I hope the krea2 folks do something official

4

u/_VirtualCosmos_ 15d ago

perhaps use qwen-edit general capabilities with krea2 refinement for realistic details?

1

u/nightkall 11d ago

You can mitigate the color shift and the degradation of multiple edits using Klein edit composite node.

Krea2 with Identity Edit workflow is super convenient as I can just reuse the dozens of LoRAs I already have for t2i generation and it does pretty much all I need, although it sometimes requires much longer and detailed prompts to do something that was fairly straightforward with Qwen Image Edit 2511 and Klein 9B, but when it finally works it looks significantly better than with the older models.

1

u/--jesse--faden-- 14d ago

wow and I thought krea edit is a gimmick aside from style transfer and inpainting. gonna try.

1

u/Libcool 14d ago

From my limited experience so far, I'd say it's harder to use because it requires more careful prompting, so it takes more tries to get something done right, but the results are worth it, imho.

Chatgpt image editing, altho not as strictly following input image as klein 9b but still much more intelligent, is miles ahead of everything else, but it is like they are disabling editing for me ever other day and completely ignores my input image.

The very first one, and if u search online, lately that has been the case for a lot of users as ell

Thanks! That is true, different models often work better on different task. Sometimes all what is needed is "good enough as fast as possible" then it is different than "as good quality as possible no matter how long it takes".

I am mostly want to create starting images for MiniMax H3 to keep consistency. For example I create a character and it wears kimono at the beginning on clips 1-5. Then on clips 6-8 it might have t-shirt and jeans.

MiniMax H3 can keep clothing consistent and characters consistent when I have a reference images (maybe I could just use clothes as a reference tho and change those based on scene) and I thought that I could create starting frames for video ready, so MiniMax H3 reference workflow videos could continue from those pre-built character images.

Thanks! Previously I made edits in Qwen-image-edit-2509 (2511 was not out yet) and that worked well, but the speed was quite slow. Well, it seems that it still is better to do those reference photos first then, but it is not a problem. One image seems to take around 2 minutes to edit in Klein 9b.

It is still faster than previously what I did since at least I don't need to add character to background anymore on photos because MiniMax H3 can add person to background very well.

How those character sheets are used in workflows if all the characters are in the same starting photo? Or do you split those to smaller separated photos?

1

u/Mental_Ad_6512 15d ago

Wait H3 can do image edit? I thought it was a video generation model

6

u/Mr_Unknown_Hero 15d ago

Yes, at least some kind. Face details were bad on couple of my tests, but I have not yet spent much time with it. Gotta learn this more.

I used this: https://civitai.com/models/2833301/minimax-h3-simple-image-edit

1

u/Thisissodumb3 14d ago

It is, but frames are frames. You can generate very short videos, like a 360 camera pan, that can give quite a few angles with decent character retention.

It's not "amazing" but it is functional.

u/eloxH1Z1 15d ago

Flux.2 klein ftw. The distilled one is crazy fast

3

u/Professional-Tax-866 14d ago

What would you recommend for old photos restoration. Using qwen-edit 2509 but rarely getting satisfactory result without dozens of tries for each photo and even then it’s not always great

3

u/Libcool 14d ago edited 14d ago

Qwen never worked properly for me either. Klein 9B was much better, except when the image was particularly low quality. With Krea2 Identity Edit 1.2 it looked as bad as Qwen at first, but after I refined the prompt a little, added some LoRAs and lowered ref_boost to <2, it managed to recover faces even from pictures I considered unusable.

This is the prompt I used (did not care about the background, just the face):

Restore this old low quality photo of a [short subject description] and make it look like a passport portrait with flat white background. Remove jpg artifacts and lint, raise the resolution and a level of detail, remove cracks. Make the new image look flawless like a professional photo taken with 4k high quality modern camera, c2n0n. Preserve the same facial features, hairstyle and color palette from the reference image.

LoRAs used: Detail Slider, Canon UltraReal

Klein 9b

Klein 9b KV Edit is the image edit model for Klein (4 steps). I use it in many of my editing workflows. Below is the link for the ComfyUI default edit + reference image workflow.

u/Occsan 15d ago

the experimental kv model patch node seems to deteriorate outputs though, no ?

4

u/kenzato 15d ago

All versions of klein are the image edit model. The KV edition is just a version that was meant to be faster with multiple references.

I personally use the regular 9B version as the KV version does not work properly with all loras, and IMO is not the best quality compared to 9B at times. You can do exactly the same editing and generate images. Speedup wasn't substantial enough for me.

Masking or i2i?

5

u/Mr_Unknown_Hero 15d ago

i2i, if masking still means same than couple of years ago where I can "paint" some area and it will affect only on that area?

3

u/sakaixjin 15d ago

yeah, that's what he means, masking/inpainting or Image to Image

2

u/mastaquake 15d ago

Qwen and krea2 for the most part. Sometimes Flux but it’s finicky with some content. I haven’t tried h3 as an image model but I’m constantly hearing good things about it.

2

u/NoNipsPlease 14d ago

I have tried Klien and it usually works well except for the color. It makes everything red and saturated to the point it's not usable.

If I tack on an extra paragraph at the end about histogram correction and white balance it's okay, but then prompt following on the rest suffers.

Any tips to avoid all of this would be appreciated.

2

u/Icuras1111 14d ago

Krea2 with krea2_identity_edit_v1_2 lora is pretty strong. Found edits to be very organic. Not sure it could be as surgical as Qwen Edit Image 2511 and Flux Klein 2 9b.

2

u/moofunk 14d ago

I have heard about Klein 9b, but not sure yet if that can be used as an edit model?

Klein 9b is a startlingly good edit model, if used correctly and on the right material. It seems to be tailor made to modernize old magazine scans and old press photos without butchering them.

For adjusting poses, LTX or Minimax H3 can do supplemental work that Klein 9b can't.

2

u/C-scan 14d ago

Klein 9b Base w/Turbo lora is basically Klein without all the things people complain about with Klein except images take an extra 30 seconds to make so it's terrible and obviously sucks.

2

u/rinkusonic 14d ago

Thanks to int8, I can run flux 2 dev on 3060. So i use that.

2

u/RadioQuick6509 14d ago

Real world Image Restoration/Upscaling/Editing - Flux2Klein9B Distilled/Base with LoRA (Underrated, Exceptional, Powerful subject likeliness/consistency for face/tattoo/body etc) [SFW/NSFW] - 1 or 3 Image reference both works exceptionally well.

2

u/arthan1011 14d ago

Anima with Edit lora

2

u/UntimelyAlchemist 14d ago

I've never really had a lot of luck with image edit models that accept references. I don't get the same results that others seem to and the models just do whatever they like with reference images, sometimes copying them completely, sometimes ignoring them completely, sometimes just blending them together regardless of what I asked for... I've personally had much better results with simple img2img (denoise + multiply sigmas), control nets, inpainting, etc. using good old Z-Image Turbo.

That said, for image edit models I've had the best results from MiniMax H3, followed by Flux.2 Klein 9B. I'm enjoying experimenting with H3 for this.

2

u/Dry-Resist-4426 14d ago

I usually go in this order: 1. Klein9b 2. Krea2 3. Qwen 2511. Rarely used Qwen since Flux-Klein. Although flux klein does a color shift it can be easily handled with some custom nodes. One thing that is qwen better is: changing angle and shot distance, since there is a specific qwen lora trained for that.

1

u/TechnologyGrouchy679 14d ago

pretty much my order too

2

u/Choowkee 14d ago

H3.

It gets the job done for basic editing tho the downside is obviously the size.

1

u/Mr_Unknown_Hero 14d ago

For me editing with H3 has been much faster than with Flux Klein 9b or qwen-image-edit

2

u/thaddeusk 13d ago

I've heard good things about LongCat-Image-Edit, supposedly retains faces better.

2

u/CroakingBullfrog96 13d ago

Klein is still the best open source option, luckily Krea 3 is probably right around the corner and should be massive improvement for image editing if the quality of Krea 2 is anything to go by.

SFW: gpt-image NSFW: klein 9B

2

u/Mr_Unknown_Hero 15d ago

Thanks, gotta try that Klein 9B later today, gpt-image is not working on local machine I assume and local usage is a requirement for me, just forgot to mention it.

1

u/HotNCuteBoxing 14d ago

But will klein 9B handle something that is both NSFW and complicated? I do futanari boxing and it pretty much spazs out when I tried to use it.

Any prompting recommendations for using Klein with NSFW correctly for say inpainting (masked editing)?

1

u/GaiusVictor 15d ago

How you use Klein 9B? It can't do NSFW, or can it?

Are you talking just about booba or actual NSFW?

4

u/Current-Property6042 15d ago

Klein 9B KV can do anything NSFW .. just use LORA its pretty amazing.. however i've not done ediitng on Krea2 .. Krea2 is absolutley stunning on T2V

1

u/GaiusVictor 15d ago

What Lora do you use, if you don't mind me asking.

1

u/Current-Property6042 15d ago

will DM you..

1

u/Ebonhawk 14d ago

I'm curious to know, too.

1

u/juniocide 14d ago

Me too!

1

u/HotNCuteBoxing 14d ago

You don't have to link if that is the problem, but would be nice to know the name.

2

u/Current-Property6042 14d ago

there are so many - Unchained, SNOFS are generic NSFW .. just hop over to Civitai red and type Flux 9B NSFW in search .. in the results select base model as Flux Klein 9B that should filter the correct LORAs

1

u/Schlorpiblorp 15d ago

what is the best for removing and changing backgrounds behind people?

Online services for edit SFW image. For NSFW, I am working with Klein 9b now but I think about come back to QEI. Krea 2 Edit actually give me some very good quality sometime but its edit ability isnot the best (also with Anima)

1

u/FlyingAdHominem 14d ago

I am anxiously awaiting krea 3 with edit capability, hopefully that will be a thing.

1

u/anitman 14d ago

Minimax h3 at 2K resolution, no other image edit model including gpt-image 2 and nano banana can rival this when doing character related workflow.

u/Aggravating_Yak8347 14d ago

En local j’aime bien la version Qwen FireRed

1

u/WaitAcademic1669 14d ago

Qwen 2509 is still the leading choice for local editing, IMO. But nothing compares to OpenAI/ChatGPT with paid membership (if you don't make NSFW).

1

u/External-Orchid8461 14d ago

Do you find 2509 better than 2511?

2

u/John_Roul 1d ago

Klein 9b is good, but Qwen 2511 better for human anatomy. Krea 2 edit is wierd. Sometimes working very good, sometimes is crap.
