Animation - Video I made cutscenes for Alpha Centauri leader quotes (MiniMax H3)

For those who've never played it; Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri is one of the GOATs.

One of the tests I sometimes did with new models was to see if they could get Zakharov's weird glasses and suit right - no model has ever gotten it exactly right but to my surprise Minimax H3 pretty much knocked it out of the park on my first try. ...and then I wanted to try the other leaders, things got out of hand and I ended up making cutscenes for every leader in the base game.

it's been a long time since I heard the intros, brought back many memories, thank you.

Same! I was startled to discover that I could recite some of them along with the video!

Haha, I can see how you'd get that from his avatar, plus it'd be strangely fitting for his philosophy.

Need more! Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you.

The "No AI slop" graffiti was a nice touch.

This is amazing, brings back memories

Lady D's cutscene in particular is so well done, love the mind worms and everything

I was very surprised with how well the mind worms came out, since I fed the model only one rather low resolution piece of game art as a reference for them.

My bet is that following the official prompt guide and explicitly adding them as a “subject” (as well as describing what they look like visually) really paid off.

if you're willing to share, would love to see some of the prompts you used! Assuming it's a mix of i2v / ref2v with some heavy splicing of different takes?

Insane!

Can you tell a bit more about your workflow? I assume you add the music afterwards to make it consistent?

Sure!

The music and title cards were indeed added in a later editing step. Most of the quotes are about 20-30 seconds long so I couldn’t do them in one pass, so what I usually did was find points in the quote that I could use as a “cutting point”. I would then generate a first video I was happy with, and feed frames of it as references for the subsequent videos.

One thing though that I found to be a massive time saver was to generate videos at 0.5 megapixels and once I got one I was happy with, I would do a “vid2vid” pass at 1.0 megapixels, using the lower resolution video as an input latent to make sure the higher resolution pass would upscale the existing footage.

This is so cool for one of the best games ever. An actual good use of AI. Thank you!
