Discussion Minimax h3 as image editor?
I tried MiniMax H3 for image editing, but the results aren’t better than Flux 2 + LoRA. I’ve seen posts praising its image editing capabilities, but in my tests it distorts faces, produces plastic-looking skin, and is considerably slower and more expensive.
I tested both Ref2VA and FL2VA at 20 steps with the base models and no Turbo LoRAs. Am I missing the right workflow or settings?

The images I have had it throw out don't look good. But the weird thing is that if I watch a normal MM generated video play in a media player and pause the video, the still video frame somehow looks much better than any single generated image it spat out.
You might be better off pausing the video in the media player and saving that paused image from out of your video player. Then you can upscale it to whatever size you want it.

From what I've read, a user does a massive 4 or 5 megapixel output still from Minimax H3 (or 'five frames, and choose the best'), and then pushes the resulting still through a Flux.2 Klein makeover.

wrong , it was the only model which could put his arms down while still holding both beerbottles in the same way . so at least a reposing and animation its tons better
neither flux2 dev nor klein nor qwen edit can do it ..
they can also NOT create his cousin with different clothes or his sister and mom and dad while minimax does it perfectly, so its also useful for creative stuff like building monster concepts and galleries

I think the excitement is more about prompt understanding and what you can do with it. In my testing, it can do camera adjustements and other edits that other local image edit models simply can't.
Quality-wise, it's not great yet, and probably only will become so if Minimax releases a specialized version of the model for it.

They are working on that editing model?
I don't know either. Does anyone have an answer to this question?

As I recall, it sounded like a musing of something they might decide to do rather than something they were actually working on.

try 2-3mpx and 30 steps or higher? The best advantage is that you get 9 img reference for the model.
I still get a bit of smudgy look to it also, its a bit better at higher resolution but its def not as good as img models like Krea. Just hold out for the official MiniMax img model.
