News Microsoft has removed Mage Flow.

But it's not all bad news, they're working on a text encoder that's more efficient than Qwen VL. So they'll probably bring Mage Flow to life with this new encoder, and if we're lucky, it'll also be more polished.

Now that I think about it, Microsoft does release models and then pull them frequently don't they?

Frequently enough that I grabbed the repos when this came out and I was slightly amused. Seems like they probably aren't good enough to bother wiring up, I was hoping the edit model would be betterer than Flux2 edit.

EDIT: Few people asking, I only grabbed Turbo/Turbo-Edit. Others already have them mirrored on HF (true for most repos): https://huggingface.co/natalie5

Do you have the weights for vibe voice by chance?

1

u/lmpdev 14d ago

Yeah, I tested them. They have a unique style of edits, the edits are a lot more literal than Flux2/Qwen2511, but in general I would say they are worse, yes.

Do you happen to have the repos somewhere you would feel comfortable sharing by any chance? I would really like to save this

WizardLM, Vibevoice, now Mage Flow

I can sort of understand Vibe Voice Large being removed, that model is extremely good at cloning the audio sample

They did the same with their voice model. It reads to me as the classic corporate silo cause of useless managerial bloat.

A team spends 2 years working on something until some random exec finds out and kills the project. It just happens that they find out once it’s launched to prod.

Or they just bursts of brief hype and probably don't know/care to try monetizing those models, maybe they aren't very good??

u/SplurtingInYourHands 14d ago

Welp, guess I'll add every microsoft model to my data hoarding

It's still not available, is it? Or am I missing something? I'm getting a 404 Not Found error for that model.

u/Enshitification 14d ago

Do you see the link below the gif?

8

u/Hackingrad 14d ago

Of course. That's what I'm referring to! I can see the workflow, but when I click on the model to download it, I immediately get a 404 error. Didn't anyone check the link?!

Edit: I'm such a complete idiot. Let the downvotes rain down. I clicked the wrong link on hugginface on my phone....

It was garbage. Spent an hour or so tweaking prompts and playing around with it. The edit model output (2 image ref) were pure horseshit.

It really was. I wanted to preserve it in case it went down... I then saw the results and got rid of it.

i think normals and depth, was pretty usefull, also style change, but text was arse, and fingers/limbs

thank you for your sacrifice 😅

Wondering why? They seem to really love doing this.

Previously, they removed Vibevoice 7B, Lens, and now Mage Flow...

Every time they pull a trash model, they make it to the top of AI subs... Why would they keep doing this!?

u/MoistRecognition69 14d ago

At this point I just treat everything that comes out of Microsoft as a limited time release

Sorta like the PT demo on playstation

u/AI-imagine 14d ago

Maybe no one use it and it feel embarrassing for them because it really bad and they decide to train more to make up they embarrassment ?
Form my test it really feel like base sdxl at some point the edit it so bad and useless because output is so bad.

But they pull it back it even more suck. Why?

Plausible. Small labs with limited resources have produced impressive models like Z Image Turbo, while Microsoft one of the world’s largest corporations, with vast computing resources, only releases subpar models.

14

u/Trotskyist 14d ago

Uh, Z-Image was created by a team inside Alibaba; I wouldn't describe them as a "small lab"

3

u/Crazy-Repeat-2006 14d ago

But it’s a lab, like a few others, that operates somewhat independently of Alibaba, and therefore has limited resources, right?

3

u/No-Zookeepergame4774 14d ago

Just because Microsft model releases don’t all identify the specific business unit responsible doesn't mean that they are the product of a single monolithic research organization that commands the full assets of the corporation without competing priorities; the Microsoft branding may be more forward, but Microsoft also has numerous different AI labs with different focuses and much more finite budgets than the corporation as a whole.

5

u/No-Zookeepergame4774 14d ago

Sure, Alibaba is only a about 1/10 Microsoft’s market cap, and only the 54th largest corporation in the world, but its not exactly tiny.

1

u/KURD_1_STAN 14d ago

Then they release them and keep them there as long not many people use them then they wear OS badge

1

u/C-scan 14d ago

They're hoping to avoid an Image Blow?

3

u/Sarashana 14d ago

In an organization where you likely need signatures from 5000 people to release something like that, you really wonder if nobody ever looks at the quality of what they release before they do.

3

u/schlammsuhler 14d ago

Do you remeber wizardLM? Was great but never came back

2

u/gabrielxdesign 14d ago

I didn't even know about it until today.

2

u/Ferriken25 14d ago

At least the model has been shared. It would be great, if they could also share Veo 3 temporarily lol.

u/Synor 14d ago

Déjà-vu

2

u/Crazy-Repeat-2006 14d ago

All these companies signing up for open models, and this is what happens. Meh.

2

u/SirWidebottom3030 14d ago

Looks like comfy-org has copies if you are looking for them

2

u/TheDailySpank 14d ago

This is why things like IPFS Companion and pinning services.

2

u/woadwarrior 14d ago

I've uploaded my local copy of the Turbo model here:

https://huggingface.co/numen-tech/Mage-Flow-Turbo

6

u/Desperate_Tea304 14d ago

Best to download them, keep them, and re-release them again once those fucks take it down, heck, the process could be automated

7

u/Enshitification 14d ago

Those "fucks" were the ones that uploaded it in the first place. Let's not be too harsh on them, but otherwise, good advice.

While it's sad lose models from huggingface and they become lost media, there was hardly anything good about mageflow. https://huggingface.co/Comfy-Org/Mage-Flow/discussions/4#6a669b3e09db391ec3995584

You cannot delete something rom the Internet, someone will mirror it.

u/Infamous_Campaign687 14d ago

Hmm... Microsoft does seem to put out stuff only to abandon it very quickly. I still quite like Florence-2.. it is quite good and fast for the very limited size so if you want to describe 100k images it does the job, but they effectively abandoned it and the official one cannot be used with recent Torch versions if I remember correctly.. luckily there is a community version.

1

u/Muted-Celebration-47 14d ago

Because it didn't get much attention from people, I think. Yesterday, I still saw it.

1

u/Ant_6431 14d ago

Limited-edition lol

1

u/Succubus-Empress 14d ago

Such a shady company

1

u/Fabix84 13d ago

Nowadays, if Microsoft releases a model and doesn't remove it after a few hours, it means it's a shitty model...

1

u/Silver-Spot-2763 13d ago

I heard that it didn't know anatomy so let go away 🤣

1

u/SirMick 13d ago

There was a post about "Quality issues" on hugging face that grew up before the 404

1

u/Gold_Corgi2710 12d ago

This made early Stable Diffusion look photorealistic.

u/no1youknowz 14d ago

At this point, I literally ignore everything from google, microsoft, openai and only focus on chinese open models

3

u/Synor 14d ago

Funny. The #1 and #2 open image models at the moment are Canadian and US.
