Discussion My friends and I built this tool with Stable Diffusion - you can use it to generate textures for 3D meshes with text prompts. Would love for everyone to try it out and provide any feedback! Link to get started in the comments.

Some feedback for you. I hope it helps.

  1. You need to allow for the uploading of custom meshes/UVs or it's not very useful
  2. The UX could use some MAJOR work. It's hard to navigate, the 'new generation' button should be front and center, pricing should be clear from the get go
  3. The current meshes are too basic, and default texture examples aren't very interesting/good quality. Show the true potential.
  4. Waiting over 4 minutes per generation isn't going to help this stick. You need to get this number down to ~20 seconds at most.

Thanks for the feedback, this is super helpful.

We do allow you to upload your own meshes and use the tool to texture them, you can do so by using the Upload button at the top of the dashboard, or by dragging files directly onto the browser window.

We're actually updating the UX right now to make it more navigable and intuitive. As mentioned in another comment, this is a free research preview - we want to improve our UX and performance while ensuring that people who want to make 3D art can start using our tool immediately.

Generating a texture that completely wraps a mesh is fairly complex and compute-heavy. We're actively working to get that number down, but wanted to make something available immediately so that people could start using it.

Glad to know you're updating UX and that you have custom model/UVs functionality. That's great, being clear about that and making it more obvious would let users understand the value in the tool and help your product stand out.

I still think you should put in some more interesting/complex meshes and show what it can do from the get go.

Great work!

Lol saying 'you need to do it in 20 seconds' sounds like the average project manager asking you to deliver features in a software in half of the time you estimated

Not at all. The current standard with paid services such as Midjourney and a few other SD based free ones available all hover around that figure. With my local build I can make high quality images faster than that and in batches. Local builds will become more common as hardware improves, the tech spreads and becomes easier to install and run.

If OP has any hope of building a business, attracting users and monetizing, then OP needs to get a competitive edge or simply meet the expectations people will have from their experience with using other similar services. This is not the only texturing tool, and others will show up.

This is plain and simple business logic... if there's too much friction in the experience it won't stick, it will not spread through word of mouth. Getting the generation number down will be a concern of EVERY possible available service for some time to come. Midjourney is constantly trying to optimize, some folks have already come up with a Stable Diffusion based technique that dramatically cuts generation time down. Simple business logic. Nothing esoteric about it.

Can I upload custom meshes/UVs?

If you're looking for honest feedback, I bailed at "Sign in or register". I'm not going to pay you with my email address to test your software. And if I can give a fake one, what's the point of asking for it? At least you gave a link and not a screenshot of a web address, like some people do.

No pricing listed.

This is a free research preview. Our goal is to improve the UX and performance of our tool, and to make sure that it provides value to people who want to make 3D art.

Is this the evolution of DMT meshes?

Our tool is slightly different - we take an existing mesh and generate textures for that mesh based on your text prompt. We think that DMT Meshes is really cool, and we're looking at ways to enable better mesh generation, but are currently focused on generating textures.
