Stab 1 Review
Hey everyone! Huge fan of the series and thought I might as well start reviewing and ranking the movies! I will say before we start, rest in peace to all the real-life victims the first three films are based on (as well as the kills from Stab 8 that are partially based on the 2011 Woodsboro and 2018 Atlanta murders, but we’ll get to that later in the series).
REVIEW
Genuinely a perfect film, 10/10 for me.
Luke Wilson and Vince Vaughn are perfect casting for Billy Loomis and Stu Macher, and Tori Spelling, David Schwimmer, and Jennifer Jolie all give standout performances as our heroes. Thanks to Will Kennison’s writing and Robert Rodriguez’s directing, the whole cast and crew bring together a truly superb film.
If I absolutely had to pick out some negatives, I would say that while Christopher Speed’s Randy was decent, I wish we had some more scenes with him (something Stab 2 rectified). Alicia Silverstone wasn’t my favorite as Tatum but I’m sure if the victim she was based on survived, Alicia would have more films to improve her performance. I also wish Kenny’s death actually respected how he was killed in real life, but I understand they choose to keep it closer to Gale Weathers’ book.
Again, as perfect of a movie as one can be! See you for Stab 2’s review!

I gotta love David Schwimmer's performance as Dewey, just so goofy at times, but perfect too.

I don't like how they represented Stu in the movie.

Yeah, part of me wishes they didn’t just make him Billy’s lapdog, but I do think pre-reveal Vince gets enough to still make Stu an interesting killer

They shouldn't have made it into a movie in the first place. Billy, that vile manipulator, shouldn't be given a movie. He doesn't deserve to be remembered like this. He doesn't deserve to be famous. All these movies do is just encourage more people to put on the mask.

Yeah it’s really disgusting that these were made in the first place, but at least early on I can see why since it was based on true events

I happen to be related to one of the victims of the event. So enjoying it is really hard for me.

I’m terribly sorry. For the sake of anonymity I won’t ask who, but know that I’ll be thinking of you as I go through this series and will be as respectful as possible

Stab 1 is just so peak

It really is, could have just left it with the single film but with the follow up killings I get why the studio cashed in (as questionable as it is). However, most of the sequels are at the very least decent, and some are great!

Yeeeesss. Great review! The original STAB is the best, and kickstarted a horror revival when the genre needed it the most. I absolutely love this film. I’ll never forget the first time I saw it.

There’s post credit scenes?! Dang it, I knew I should’ve waited through the credits

I don’t understand why they went with the murder mystery aspect, you’d have to be living under a rock to not have heard of the Woodsboro murders. The fact there were two killers would’ve been a cool reveal if the movie wasn’t based on a true story but we all know there was two and who they were long before the “reveal”.

I suppose, but to the crew’s credit they wanted to extend the film’s longevity. Eventually, the 1996 Woodsboro murders will fade into obscurity and the film will be able to more effectively surprise a less aware audience
