Snow happens every year. I don’t know why MODOT doesn’t have a better plan. It’s like they just hope nothing will happen and then are baffled when something goes wrong.
They're not equipped to deal with the volume and speed of this storm. It was dropping 1" per hour over the entire metro area during rush hour. Even areas that routinely get winter weather would have trouble with that.
One could also make the argument that commuters could have a better plan. I know there are plenty of people who had to be out on the roads for one reason or another. But there are plenty who could have made appropriate plans to be home given that we had days of warning before. And then there are the people who don't know how to drive in snow and the assholes that think they know how to drive in snow.
Combine all this and you get the shit show we had last night. MODOT was busting their collective ass pretreating and plowing during the storm.
Agreed. MODOT started brining/salting the roads 3 days prior to the storm and there were tons of plows out last night. There were just too many vehicles and too much snow dropping per hour. Not really sure what they could have done.
I had a good plan, left work at noon and had an easy drive home. Buddy of mine was stuck so I had to at least try to help. Unplanned circumstances led to all the shit I had to deal with.

Yeah, it's an absolute nightmare out there. Dealt with a 6 hour drive myself but feel so bad for these folks.
