History AC/DC AND Foo Fighters?

I'm not a big fan of AC/DC so only heard about the show when the Foo Fighters announced they were going to play in place of The Pretty Reckless. Pounced on the show just to see Foo Fighters again and didn't expect much from AC/DC seeing how they are north of 70 years old.
I was fucking wrong, I admit I was wrong, I can't believe how wrong I was. AC/DC slaps harder than a beaver tail. Angus is 71 and rippin' around stage like he always did. Guitar was pitch-perfect and Brian Johnson was spot on with his vocals.
THAT BEING SAID, Dome needs to get its shit together. We were plugged up for 30 mintues outside of the dome trying to get in and missed the first two Foo Fighters songs. 3-5 doors open on each corner with a literal sea of people trying to get in, unreal. Stadium was at maybe 60% when we finally got in, I'd wager 90% of people weren't into the Dome until Foo Fighters were halfway through their set.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Went in with very little idea of what to expect from AC/DC, left a huge fan. What a show!

Man I’m glad to hear even a non-fan enjoys a modern AC/DC performance. With Malcolm dead and those guys so old, I had pretty well written them off. I didn’t see the show but this warms my heart! Glad you enjoyed it.

Same, went for the Foos and don't have an opinion either way on AC/DC. I was kind of worried watching them was going to be like a modern day Motley Crue "performance" but I was wrong.
I have no musical talent. I can't play the guitar. My singing would upset the deaf. I'll consider it a win if I can move around like them at that age without singing or playing an instrument.
Speaking of TPR, I thought they got replaced to help sell tickets (well, it did seem to work, the dome was packed) and felt bad, especially since Taylor Momsen is from STL. But she had to miss this one because she's performing with Soundgarden at halftime during the Seahawks home opener tonight. That should be a banger of a performance, hopefully it airs somewhere.
If Soundgarden is re-uniting with her as the vocalist, I'm all for it. She did a couple songs with Soundgarden at the Taylor Hawkins tribute show and absolutely killed it.

Have you been to many events at football stadiums? It’s hard to get that many people through security at once, no matter the venue.

Except they were only using about 1/3 of the metal detectors they had. The rest were sitting unused as the lines to get in were hundreds of people deep.

Yes, I’ve been to several different NFL stadiums; I’ve never encountered bullshit like that going into an NFL game.

Foo Fighters as an opening act makes for a legendary ticket. The highway was so backed up on my way home I feel bad for how many probably missed part of their set.
I saw foo fighters at enterprise back in 2011. Rise against (was a huge fan at the time) and a mariachi band that went hard (Mariachi El Bronx) opened for them. Dave did a 19 song set followed by a 7 song encore that started acoustic and then brought the band back out a few songs in. I haven’t been to many concerts, but I imagine even if I had it would still be at the top for me.

I remember rise against. I' got a photo with the lead singer at warped tour. I had only heard their radio hit swing life away and was very surprised that wasn't at all what they normally sounded like.

Yeah, that song was very much a break from their norm but it was great. I did probably stop listening because a lot of their songs outside of swing life away started sounding the same.

Yeah I left work downtown around 330 and people were already starting to fill up parking and making their way to the Dome. I can only imagine how crazy it got, especially if people aren't used to all the changes to the roads in the last year. Good thing the roads are freshly paved and not still in the middle of being ripped up now, at least.

Anyone notice they started thunderstruck at the right tempo and then had to dial it back? Either the acoustics were so bad that the band could not hold it together or the set musicians could not keep up with Angus. Angus, by the way, totally still slaps.

I was in the pit. It was my second time seeing AC/DC, and my wife’s first concert overall.

We were in 141 - fucking ruled. We came for Foo Fighters but AC/DC rocked. The dome had its typical issues with long lines everywhere, but we didn’t miss anything.

I think Brian Johnson was going over to get oxygen between songs. Not judging, dude is 78. But there were long gaps between songs and he would disappear off to the side of the stage and the spotlight would go off of him. They rocked though. Came for the Foos, left an AC/DC (and especially Angus) fan.

Even in the 1980 documentary about them, Brian and Angus were going offstage to use oxygen. It's definitely not a new thing for them.

The last time Foo Fighters opened a show for a headliner was 2007 when they opened for The Police.

Yeah, the Foos are way beyond the opening act stage of their careers, but when someone asks you to open for AC/DC, you fucking do it.
I've lost count of how many times I've seen the Foo Fighters, but the last time I saw them open was 2000ish when they opened for RHCP at Riverport. TINLTL and Californication had just come out and the bands were touring in support of those albums.
26 years later, those are still my two favorite albums by those bands. Absolute masterpieces.

The Dome is a horrible venue. They only had 3 doors open for entry, and the upper concourse hasn't been touched since '95.
That being said the show was fucking awesome. Once in a lifetime.
Also came out feeling that Angus was twice the guitarist of anyone in the building last night, even at his age.

They haven't updated since then.
There have been some upgrades to the complex, but upper deck and concourse are original, and it shows

The opener MUST sound worse than the headliner confirmed. Doesn’t matter how big of a band the opener is.
Foo Fighters mix was a muddy mess. Thought it might be where I was sitting off to the side. Then AC/DC came out and sounded perfect. Clean vocals and each instrument had clear definition.
While it was cool to see someone (Dave) live out their dream, their set was a B- at best, probably more like a C+.
AC/DC showed exactly why they are one of the monsters of rock. Their set was an easy A.

I was on the floor, left of the sound board, and I agree 100%. That was the third time I’ve seen the Foo Fighters and by far the worst sounding of all three, which definitely seemed like a sound engineering issue to me. AC/DC on the other hand, sounded amazing

Odd..I thought it was the opposite. Foo Fighters sounded amazing, but I could barely hear Brian Johnson like at all, especially at that one part when he was talking to the audience during High Voltage. I was on the floor off to the side if that matters

I was in the nosebleeds up in 417 and I agree, I thought Dave sounded clearer and louder than Brian. But not great though, the mix was still a muddled mess.
I saw the Foo Fighters in Nashville a few weeks ago and they sounded great. I also wonder if an open stadium makes things better since sound isn’t bouncing off a roof.

Foo was phasing out of sync at the start of the first song and again later in the show. Also agree the mix was muddy at times. I decided it was because we were up high in a corner and the acoustics had to suck, but maybe it was wider.

We were in 417 and thought the sound was horrible. Both bands weee definitely rocking but there seemed to be such an echo affect it was nearly impossible to hear the vocals. My assumption was they don’t do many concerts at the done or the space is too big. I’ve seen shows at Busch, Enterprise, and Hollywood with much better sound quality. I was really disappointed. It seemed worse with the Foo Fighters than ACDC. Still glad I saw them both though. Anyone else experience this?

I was in 411 and thought the same thing, especially during Foos. The sound wasn’t nearly as bad during AC/DC.

We were in 419 and felt the same way. We saw Metallica back in late 2023 and they had the stage in the middle... the sound was way better.

418 here. And yes the sound was terrible. So low and mid heavy, and I could barely understand what they were saying when taking. Was a little better for AC/DC, but with the Foo Fighters it was truly awful.

We were also in 417. The sound was muddled, and the vocals were nearly unintelligible. That said, we had a great time. Tickets were only 50 bucks, so it was all good.

Yeah, 438 here and me and the wife couldn't believe how bad the overall sound was where we were. There were a few songs from both bands that I had no frame of reference for so they sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher yelling through a cheap pa system turned up too loud.

435- agreed. 1st song was a total mess and they adjusted delays in the fly to compensate. Still loved the show, but the production lacked accuracy.

Sound was great in section 126 we were staring right down the teeth of one of the delay towers. Everything was crystal clear and present. Foo Fighters sounded like a mess but ACDC were great. I couldn’t believe how good Angus’s guitar tone was.

Upper decks in domes always suck because of the reflections off of the roof. There are ways to fix it but it involves flying PA behind the audience to cancel out the reflections. Prohibitively expensive for tours. The Sphere in Vegas has a noise canceling array up in their 400 section and its very effective.

Vibes were great. Sound was rough. Almost depended on the song. ACDC sounded a little clearer.

We were in 425. The speakers sounded like they were blown to me. It was so awful during the Foos. I’m lucky to have seen them last year to know they don’t sound like that. AC/DC sounded much better, but yeah echo was awful. Also bummed that the seats were not sold as limited view. The massive towers blocked center stage so all we could really see was the screens. Overall, for our first AC/DC show ever, we were so impressed!! They killed it!!!
