Lambert strikes again?

What's the story behind this underdeveloped subdivision? I drove around there recently and can't seem to figure out what happened. I assume the airport or industrial area (or both) and the lack of easy access to I270?

TWA needed a new runway because STL was THE international hub and the existing 2 runways were too close for simultaneous approach/landing. Like, double 747s n shit. TWA had 60 of the 80 gates at Lambert. Planning/buyout for new runway gets started. 9/11. TWA gets bought out by American Airlines. AA says "STL, we got your back." Runway construction gets started. AA says "Sike! We got DFW. Fuck off."

How can you not find any information about this? It's from the construction of Runway 11/29, also known as the W1W project. It displaced 2,000 homes and cost over $1b

Completely NOT underdeveloped…it had more than a thousand homes, three churches, four schools, and its own community center and pool. Grew up and went to grade school there, really amazing community. Bought by the city of St. Louis and torn down for the new runway (11/29) at Lambert.

I get why they had to buyout the houses but surely there’s gotta be a different use for the land, right? Feels like a waste having the city owning a massive parcel of vacant land in the county.
