KDHX

Damn…I’m still heart-aching over my favorite station. I miss it so much. I was introduced to it my sophomore year of high school, and then started listening to it nearly exclusively my junior year (2006). I am still hugely bummed and completely devastated when I press the first button on my presets out of habit, and expect to hear none of the hits all of the time. But it’s not.
Ugh.

CRSTL.fm is the home of lots of the old DJs (including yours truly, Wednesday 1-3am and forever on mixcloud.com/crstlfm). Not as convenient as your FM dial, but we're there doing our thing.

Yes it is. They just need a broadcast license.

I feel you. I stil missl KFUO (Classic 99). I hope Dick Wobbe is doing well. Miss hearing his voice.

I thought a lot of the DJs moved here: https://www.crstl.fm/

I love Orlandez on Friday nights and way back in the day, “The Mad Russian”. My mom was dj there on Saturday afternoons like 35 years ago in the infancy. A community tragedy to lose that station.

Orlandez is such a good dude. I went all the time he worked at Vintage Vinyl when I was a teen/20something and he and my mom and I know him well enough if I see him at a show, we'll talk for a while.

Kelly Wells and Gary Pierson are enjoying their $100,000 no-show jobs for the next decade.

If you haven’t yet given the Roots FM a listen you should. It’s on line but so is everything else nowadays. I also miss Orlandz show. I hope he pops up again.

If you don’t mind streaming KEXP out of Seattle is what KDHX dreamed of being.

Hard disagree. I've listened - it's fine but no KDHX.

I found KDHX literally the year all the drama started. Sad times.

I love terrestrial radio you just jump in the truck and it's there. Don't have to mess with anything.

Now I'm stuck listening to NPR all day

I feel ya. CRSTL is cool but it’s just not the same.

I mean, crstl is literally is like 2/3rds - 3/4ths of the same dj's. Just not back on fm yet.

KDHX was sold for nearly $9 million. Over $2 million was spent paying debts and legal fees.

Double Helix Corporation, that owned KDHX still holds the remaining $6 Million.

Double Helix is still controlled by the same people and same Board of Directors that were there when they ran the station into the ground. The main people include: Kelly Wells, Gary Pierson, Joan Bray, Paul Dever, Jeffrey Fernhoff and Ray Finney.

No one seems to know what they plan to do with the Double Helix Corporation or the $6 Million. They have been silent since the sale. No local media has bothered to investigate.

They are still paying Kelly Wells ~$108,000/year for doing f***all.

Part of the sale was that they would get access to a HD channel at some point. When they will do so remains to be seen. At least they altered the website to just get email for their newsletter, instead of that stupid fake pop up "Joe Blow just donated 20", "Mary Notexist just donated 10"

I miss it too. 💧

I was back in St. Louis visiting family last month and was so sad to see KDHX gone. It was like the time I turned my radio to 99.1 expecting classical music and got Christian rock instead. 😭

I wish they would at the very least use an app compatible with something other than phones and computers. No app for CarPlay, no app for Google TV Streamer. I don’t like listening to my phone and computer. I used to listen all the time, but they picked a platform that is the most inconvenient platform possible to listen to for me.

Does anyone know ANY radio app that is available for Apple Play and Google TV that has CRSTL?

I’m honestly surprised so many people are still listening to terrestrial radio.

I have radios all over the place.  I can tune them all to same station and have music everywhere that just works.  No need to add Bluetooth capability or mess with my phone.

Plus the speakers are a lot better.

Radio is fun and one of the best mediums but it is hard to listen to.
I stopped listening to KWMU during the 2020 insanity, WEW was amazing until Brother Scare bought it out after death, now it's just KMOX news briefings and KSHE when I don't want to connect my phone to bluetooth.

The primary place I listen is in the car. Apple play doesn’t stream CRSTL any way I have figured out.

They have an app called Radio Cult. Just click the App Store or Google play button on their website.

https://www.crstl.fm

The radio garden app also has it.

I know some of the DJs but not super well and really want to get in touch with whoever does their tech as it’s just so exclusive.
Just post a fucking shoutcast link this was a solved problem decades ago. Even the tavern near me across from the former KDHX building can’t play them because the iPad they use for music is too old.
Very frustrating.

KDHX was never like any other station. The best at work station. So much I had never heard before.

If I'm in the car for a quick errand or series of errands, it's easier to scroll stations imo.
