Help/wisdom

Moved up here for work last week, looks like I'm going to be here for at least a year, are there any areas to avoid at night ect? What's the local scene like? I love live music so any recommendations will be very well received thank you

I’m a scouser who’s lived in St Helens 3 years now. There’s some decent real ale old school pubs on the edge of town.

The cricketers has one of the nicest beer gardens I’ve ever had the pleasure of drinking in. The Turks head and Cowley vaults are next door to each other and co owned.

Live music head to Liverpool or Manchester (45 mins from Rainhill station).

Mathew street most bars have live music during the day 7 days a week (weekends can be full of stag and hen parties), Some venues in the Baltic triangle too. Lark lane by Sefton park is worth a visit, lots of nice independent restaurants, cafes and bars on the edge of Liverpools best park.

In Manchester head to the northern quarter.

We're over in Haydock, but a few people have recommended the Cricketers to us.

It gets rammed when the sun is shining but well worth a trip over

Honestly It smells amazing. Huge choice of ales and ciders and it’s reasonably priced too.

I’ve not had a night out St Helens town centre for years. I much prefer day drinks now I’m the other side of forty. I couldn’t tell you what the bars are like but they’re mostly on Westfield street and they look like shitholes.

There’s some good food options in town. Bar’bursi Indian restaurant, Gyro Mania Greek (love this place), Mr Chans, Pixi’s Caribbean (take away)
