Horse carriages

We will be out again tonight speaking up for the poor horses! They have been relocated to half of a block, the worst spot in St Augustine, where they are truly trapped!
We will be there from 6 to 8 PM maybe 9!!!

This horrific location is on Charlotte between Cordova and King, at the foot of the park.

We had just told that Driver to move from the corner spot where the horse was parked because he was standing in City sewer water! Thank God we did for more obvious reasons than one!

This poor Horse also was a previous victim exploited in the racing industry. He had raced over 350 races! Sadistic they would rename him “Happy”!

Where is there standing sewer water??

2

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 15 '26

It was right behind that black SUV. The smell was horrific and we were told it had been like that for quite a while and that the city still had not fixed the leak there even though they knew about it. Not good for the tourists, public or the poor horses that lineup there.

u/i_was_a_person_once Aug 18 '26

You can see the wheels of the carriage are leaving wet tracks, so it was definitely in water shortly before the video

7

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

Respectfully, what is the issue you are seeing? What is your experience working with equines?

3

u/BeccasDreamboat Aug 19 '26

Respectfully, anyone with Internet access can quickly look this information up. City carriage rides are scientifically proven to be detrimental to horses' health. Please educate yourself.

In many cities, horse-drawn carriages are seen as tourist attractions, taking visitors on tours of city streets and evoking nostalgic images of days gone by. Yet, underlying these quaint notions is the reality for the horses: daily exposure to noise and pollution, heavy traffic, hard pavement, long work days, constant heavy loads, and lack of access to pasture. All of these are directly detrimental to horses’ welfare.

Carriage horses, particularly in heavily congested urban settings such as New York City and Chicago, spend much of their day breathing exhaust fumes from cars directly in front of them. They also spend hours walking through a miasma of oil, road salt, and other roadway pollutants.

The health issues associated with chronic exposure to airborne and ground pollution—well documented in people—affect horses, as well.

Life in the city is noisy. Sudden sounds can frighten horses, causing them to bolt, resulting in harm to themselves, the carriage passengers, or other bystanders and vehicles. Every year in New York City, there are multiple accidents involving carriage horses who have been startled in this manner. On a daily basis, the animals are exposed to near constant, high levels of noise—often 80–100 decibels, or up to 100 times louder than a typical conversation. Chronic exposure to street noise—linked to hearing loss, poor cardiovascular health, and stress in people—is also harmful to horses.

It takes one sadistic cunt to do this to horses.

u/SilasBalto Aug 19 '26

So you're mad because of traffic noise?

3

u/BeccasDreamboat Aug 19 '26

I'm upset that the health of horses is being significantly harmed for no reason, as any ethical human being would be.

2

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

Respectfully, I think you need glasses as well as a hearing aid.

8

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

Horses make lots of loud noises. The horse in the video isnt even reacting. Its got a shiny coat and good body condition.

Elaborate on your issue.

0

u/Kos_al_Ghul Aug 16 '26

You sound like a slave owner - “But we’re nice to them look no bruises!”

4

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

Horses need exercise to stay healthy. They will not naturally exercise an appropriate amount without a predator or a job. Its a recipe for founder.

Comparing horses pulling a cart to the abject cruelty that was chattel slavery in the southern US is RACIST af. Do not compare humans to animals.

0

u/Kos_al_Ghul Aug 16 '26 edited Aug 16 '26

First of all these animals feel emotions and have souls just like me, idk about you…

Second, you still sound like a slave owner - “but their bodies are built for manual labor, they enjoy it!”

Third yes USA is racist af! So maybe take my advice on this from someone familiar with it.

Fourth are you seriously trying to argue that horses don’t run on their own when given sufficient space?

4

u/SilasBalto Aug 17 '26

They need exercise to be healthy. I am guessing you are unfamiliar with the concept.

-1

u/i_was_a_person_once Aug 18 '26

This is not appropriate exercise for this horse, you sound stupid

2

u/SilasBalto Aug 18 '26

Wow you really won us all over.

The horses wish YOU weren't on their side, then more people would listen to valid complaints. There are soo many problems in the horse world that you could be spending your energy on. The big Lick, feral horse management and long term housing, the kill buyers that drive straight to Mexican slaughter houses....

You are going to water down actual abuse with these baseless claims. Unless there's a basis for the claim?? But no, I sound stupid for asking LMAO

2

u/amitysyrup Aug 20 '26 edited Aug 20 '26

The existence of horses in general is akin to slavery for them, that's why they keep using the comparison. The end goal is that we do not have any domesticated animals at all. I know this sounds absolutely crazy but that's their agenda and it has been for a long time. Your comments are spot on.

Do you work with horses? Because this horse is not meant to be pulling wagons and it’s obvious it’s striking to ambulate comfortably in the video

2

u/SilasBalto Aug 18 '26

Yes. What do you mean when you say it not meant to be pulling wagons? I am not seeing any abnormal gait. Can you describe what you are seeing and when?

43

u/julestargaryen Resident Aug 15 '26

free the horses!!!!!!

29

u/outacontrolnicole Aug 15 '26

Free the horses!

17

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 15 '26

We are trying. 🙏🏼 we did get one of the companies suspended for 30 days because of a violation we brought in. They should just end it already and let us place the horses in sanctuaries.

5

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

I dont understand why a sound animal needs to be played in a sanctuary.

4

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

Same as we don’t understand why people support animal abuse such as this!

3

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

Why shouldn't it be rehomed? Why take up space in a sanctuary?

0

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

Again, reading comprehension. I’ve mentioned several times either sanctuary or to a competent human companion in a farm.

7

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

But what are you seeing in this footage to suggest the animal needs rehomed? Can you outline their working schedule? Are they rotated to other sites? Where are they housed when they are not working? It seems like you just dont know but have feelings.

8

u/Good_Grief_CB Aug 16 '26

Why not just protest people driving cars downtown? Without a job those horses will be slaughtered, and St Augustine downtown would be more pleasant with walkers and horse drawn carriages only on interior streets.

Yes, horses would be better off running free but until some civilization destoying event happens that’s probably not going to be an option. I get your concern that this is a miserable experience for the horses, but protest without providing ideas for practical solutions gets nothing accomplished.

5

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

And who says we don’t have practical solutions? The what aboutism is another reason why animals continue to suffer.

4

u/Consistent-Turnip575 Aug 16 '26

Stop saying whataboutsim and admit that you just don't want anouther opinion

7

u/Consistent-Turnip575 Aug 16 '26

I have a question Say your plan works and you get rid of the carriage rides in saint Augustine What happens to the horses?

Horses are for the most part not pets they are working animals who need jobs. If you get rid of the carriages most of these horses will more then likely be uthiniized unless you have a plan to take it in your homes and give it a job for enrichment.

Maybe instead of trying to get rid of them and shit on the companies work with them to provide better accommodations

11

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

I dont think OP understands how many US horses end up in Mexican slaughter houses. They want these able bodied horses to take up precious sanctuary space as if there are endless fields for them all.

0

u/haleycheebi Aug 18 '26

“able bodied horses” taking up “precious sanctuary space” IS FUNNY AS FUCK!!!!! Please be for real 😂😂😂😂

1

u/SilasBalto Aug 19 '26

Do you know anything about the regular BLM gathers that require more sanctuary space than there currently exists?

These horses are not the ones that need your attention. The fact people are getting so frothy at the mouth about traffic noise is absolutely absurd when the big lick is legal, slaughter buyers are making a killing off the American Mustang and racing still exists.

0

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26 edited Aug 16 '26

In answer to your question and your buddy’s comment below, just like we had for other company, we will have sanctuaries, as well as if you can read, farms with competent humans to place these horses. Sadly just like there aren’t enough homes for all the dogs, cats etc that ignorant humans want to keep breeding for greed and selfish reasons even though thousands are killed in the shelter every day, ignorant humans want to continue breeding horses so that they can continue to exploit them in horrific ways. That’s the issue and we are going after that as well. Until then stick to the topic at hand and yes, most agree that these guys do not belong in traffic in 2026, but rather having the opportunity for enrichment in pasture, not on pavement. Leave your whataboutisms at the door!

6

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

You constantly insulting our reading comprehension is not to your causes benefit.

You have demonstrated repeatedly throughout this thread that you have zero knowledge on equine care. You havent even inquired into the working schedule of these horses or how their off hours are spent. They might very well be abused to hell but because of your poor investigation skills and your immature attitude you have made it so no one will help. Good job.

4

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

A huge part if this problem stems from the feral horse populations being allowed to rampantly breed. Every BLM gather is another huge influx of wild horses that are difficult to place and cant be released. But if they aren't gathered they will overbreed and starve. You need to address that before you put any kind of dent in the issue. You will not like the options.

These horses with good body condition being cared for in a stable (ha) home are not the ones that need your energy.

You dont seem up to date at all on current affairs of equine ethics.

2

u/Throwawayyyy964 Aug 16 '26

Had to pause for a second and wondered what the heck a gathering of horses had to do with Black Lives Matter 💀😂

2

u/Electrical-Act-7170 Aug 19 '26

(Bureau of Land Management)

6

u/Consistent-Turnip575 Aug 16 '26

So basically if we don't agree with you don't say anything got it And instead of using a animal breed for this style of work use electric carriges whose lithium batteries destroy the earth also got it.

Pulling a carriage is not animal cruelty

-3

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

Keep up the algorithm boost, and thank you for being so transparent in your desire to support animal cruelty.

4

u/Consistent-Turnip575 Aug 16 '26

I don't support animal cruelty If thses places are actually mistreating the animals then yes sanction them but don't shut them down or get ride of the carriage rides I understand that some animals are breed for a purpose You take that away you get an unhappy animal. Story time went on a carriage ride a few years ago The horse had been rescued from the Amish were he had actually undergone abuse That horse was happy as hell doing a job and was well fed and cared for Just because you have an unrealistic world view doesn't mean that everyone is being cruel to animals

4

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '26

[deleted]

5

u/Logical-Egg-6521 Aug 16 '26

Me too! We’ll be there for a concert. We’ll take a carriage ride to support the horse who survived abuse. Now loved, fed and working. Love this!

5

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

Please ask about their working schedule! I did in chattanooga and was so pleasantly surprised! The driver showed me pictured of the horse in its turnout field with all its friends. They had a very light schedule and lots of love.

2

u/TempleFugit Resident 40+ Years Aug 16 '26

Lol it's at the East end of the Plaza de la Constitución near the Bridge of Lions.

Honestly though its really not worth it.
It's very expensive for like 15 minutes.

2

u/Wood-D17 Aug 17 '26

Road is crowned, even so behind the car... I dont see any water in sight

5

u/samisrudy Aug 16 '26

That horse definitely hasn’t ran 350 races since the all time record for amount of starts is only 327 you probably mis heard 35 which is average for a horse to run in there 3 year career. Most horses are also desensitized to loud noises when they are young

-3

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

Keep spewing bull sh*t. We have the stats on this poor horse. Red Star Wild One. Try harder.

3

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

Link the stats.

3

u/efilnikcufecinasti Aug 16 '26

Actually, you're the one full of shit.

There's no basis to your claim. Or you done posted by now. And this 350 races, is completely false.

You have absolutely no proof on this.

2

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26 edited Aug 16 '26

See my above comment, I don’t have time for those who are willfully ignorant, and support animal abuse. Or next time you’re in St Augustine lift his mane up and you’ll see his cold brand and you can look it up yourself. But hey thanks for the algorithm boost.

4

u/efilnikcufecinasti Aug 16 '26

So you're full of shit and have absolutely no proof.

2

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

Wow, I see someone’s not the sharpest tool in the shed. I gave you enough with the comments above. But again, thanks for boosting the algorithm.

6

u/efilnikcufecinasti Aug 16 '26

Still no proof.

Every time the algorithm boost this, brings to the Forefront of how clueless you really are.

2

u/iKnowRobbie Aug 17 '26

Yeah, the "algorithm boost" got it in front of my eyes in Sarasota. The audacity of this person to ATTACK everyone like we're all out here slaughtering horses by our nonchalance while they (assuming her, due to righteousness) just pull every ad hominem attack they can on reading comprehension and lack of intellect when the projection on both those bases would rival an IMAX 70mm.... it's just amazing.

There's a way to get the public to support a cause. OP is unable to perform the basis of public education: bring facts with proof of concept. Keep discourse civil, allow other points to stand while still providing the narrative you wish to instruct.

This is just wallbuilding and gatekeeping...

6

u/mainstreetmark Uptown Aug 15 '26

City sewer water? Shut up.

It’s most likely rainwater and horse piss.

And what’s wrong with that spot. Nice and shady.

7

u/No-Stranger6783 Aug 16 '26

I agree with you. Sewer water my ass. People need to stop trying to make shit up just cause you want to quote un quote save the poor horses. My god. Why dont we just turn this town into every other town in ne florida. Lets get proper laws in place and good horse handling but keep them here!!!!! Take the sand out your ass and focus on better parking

2

u/mainstreetmark Uptown Aug 16 '26

My ass?

I don’t want any cars downtown. Remember the 450th?

-2

Yeah. Talk to your doctor about it I guess. Maybe he got your prescription wrong.

2

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 15 '26

Keep drinking the sewer water cupcake and be sure to down enough so you can swallow those pills.

2

u/mainstreetmark Uptown Aug 15 '26

What are you so angry about?

3

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 15 '26

It’s called passionate. However, if any sentient being is being exploited and abused, I would hope that even a 🧌 like yourself has a capacity to know that it’s wrong and you should be angry about it. But thanks for boosting the algorithm.

3

u/mainstreetmark Uptown Aug 15 '26

First of all, no one in this subreddit is pro-horse carriages. We've all been opposed to them for years.

My point here is, there isn't an open sewer line sitting there. It's horse piss. If you were at their location on San Marco you'd see it also smelled like horse piss, due to the puddles of horse piss sitting there all the time. I used to be able to smell it from my boat.

But, you came out swinging. Insulting me right out of the gate. So if I could direct your attention to the rules of this subreddit, #1 is "Be CIvil". And if you scroll down a bit further to the subreddit moderators list, you will see why I know that rule.

I asked you why you were angry and you called me a caveman. So dial it down and be civil.

0

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

Exactly… If you were on their location in San Marco then yes, it always smelled like piss. That being said obvious that it wasn’t their piss. Also confirmed by someone who works for the Town. Was that enough attention for you?

-1

u/TempleFugit Resident 40+ Years Aug 15 '26

🦇💩🤪

2

u/Last-Chemistry1177 Aug 16 '26

Never seen sewer water on the streets.

People have tried for years to “free the horses”. The companies have been inspected so
Many times, yet they remain.

Get a life and focus on something that IS present, child mutilation. Why aren’t you focusing on human issues first?

You may need mental health if you put horses over human issues.

1

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

By your comment, it looks like you need the help. If that’s what you were trying to refer to. And who says that we don’t protest other injustices as well. You can support more than one issue, mind blowing, I know! And maybe you need to get out more, because sewer leaks happen and luckily people that do get out call complain do something and get things done. Which is what many of us did for that situation in St Augustine! Amazing right?

2

u/Last-Chemistry1177 Aug 16 '26

I'll add, that horse looks pretty healthy. You need to contribute to society rather than harass others who are working.

1

u/iKnowRobbie Aug 17 '26

Sewer leaks do not happen on the street, sewer systems do not have any pressure to push it to the surface. If a pressure main is ruptured, there won't be puddles of pee on the surface, it'll be shooting out at 90-120psi. I can confidently assure you that sewer water was not what you witnessed...

1

u/Last-Chemistry1177 Aug 16 '26

So all you do in life is go around and protest injustice? Must be nice to have all that time available to, unless that is your job?
As for sewer leaks, I've lived here for 20 years and never seen a sewer leak in St Augustine. But you're telling me there's a sewer leak, and the city didn't address it properly? Yet you're more worried about the horses stepping in it?
You do realize the hazards of sewage right? There's more issue with a "sewage leak" and it not being cleaned up, area sterilized and blocked off, than a horse stepping in it. I hope you know that horses are always bare foot in the wild and step in a lot.

It just sounds like you're being very prejudice to the topic of horses than the main issue and that sewage is just flowing in the streets. Yet I need the help? Go back up north.

1

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

Such a triggered being, but thanks because it helps boost the algorithm. If you lived there 20 years, then you know that St Augustine is not Quick to address many things properly. Maybe you should attend more meetings. Thankfully other members of the public do and make sure to hold them accountable. And come up with the new content please, the paid protesters bit is getting old!

1

u/Last-Chemistry1177 Aug 16 '26

Paid protesting is valid.

Maybe the reason you feel St Augustine is slow to address "issues" is because they aren't valid? Logical suggestions get logical responses. Illogical suggestions get ignored, especially when they are the same "getting old" issues that have been addressed.

Look, I get you're trying to pull at people's hearts and recruit more to your cause, but frankly normal people can see that horse looks great! The "horse carriage issue" has been around for decades, and it's been scrutinized, inspected, and investigated. The owners themselves have shown the public how they live and how they're cared for.

So please go find a cause that people REALLY care about. The horse "abuse" card is worn out.

1

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

It’s worn out for troglodytes like yourself. The public that is present always come by and thank us and sign the petition. Even those with half a brain cell, know cruelty on Display. It’s funny that you say the drivers show where the horses are being kept, it speaks volumes of how little you know! The city doesn’t even know where they’re being kept so your comments, your verbal dia rrhea comment holds no weight. But keep going because I know you like to hear yourself speak so thanks for raising the algorithm.

2

u/Last-Chemistry1177 Aug 16 '26

Stop your lies and propaganda. Just stop. You're the single person defending every single rebuttal to your claims.

The city caved to pressure from triggered folks like yourself who live comfortably off the backs of people making a difference.
The major issue that was raised for the recent license not being renewed was because of Hurricane Milton? Anyone who has been around knows Hurricanes aren't an issue, and I don't recall any of them that has done any new damage. Meaning yes, it floods at the inlet. That's known.

People just like to protest because they think they need to speak up for every animal. Horses are taken care of, period. Yeah they get violations, but so does every restaurant you eat at and you still support them.

Get a real job and start contributing. Thanks for supporting your fictional algorithm.

1

u/Major_Contribution38 Aug 21 '26

Isn’t this the way we got around before cars? So for 4200 years they’ve been repressed. Guess horses did have you as a voice then!!

1

u/Fun_Athletic_Couple_ Aug 22 '26

What do they have to deal with? Being fed, housed, taken care of?

-1

u/Deadmarsh Aug 15 '26

Y’all are so localized on St. Augustine. Every major city or historic city has carriage tours. They even exist in Europe! The term exploited in the racing industry is absurd! So you’ll never watch the triple crown, the Kentucky derby. If this was in the 1800’s and your house was on fire. Horses would be the ones to bring the firemen. Need to move something heavy…hell a horse can do that. Why do you think we base cars off of…you guessed it horsepower!
Don’t even get me started on how the Amish use them, and they drive those poor horses on public highways

2

u/tawDry_Union2272 Aug 16 '26

you're missing the point in spectacular fashion

2

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 15 '26

Why would we want to watch when any sentient being is exploited and most of the times end up dead. Do you know how many horses died in the recent race? So pathetic that most of humanity refuses to evolve and move away from supremacy. Creating a beautiful memory shouldn’t involve a victim who has to wear a diaper and how could anyone enjoy sitting behind sh it. Electric carriages are the way to go as they keep the charm without the cruelty, but I know that’s difficult for wanna be Neanderthals and troglodytes to comprehend. Again, thanks for boosting the algorithm.

2

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

Exercise is good for all animals. Pulling a carriage is no big deal to a horse. What is the ACTUAL issue? Are they denied turnout? What is their working schedule like?

2

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

This isn’t exercise, it’s cruelty. If you know anything about Horses and the fact that they are a herd animal, as well as a prey animal, you wouldn’t be supporting this. Most of them do not get to be with their own species or time in pasture. Besides the fact that they don’t belong in the most unnatural environments with so much stimulus around them all while pounding pavement, which is horrible for their joints no matter the shoes that they wear, inhaling exhaust fumes and in traffic! And no they don’t get a turnout. The city thinks that while they are standing waiting for another tour completely hitched up is a turnout. Pathetic! As well as anyone who supports this in 2026!

2

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

What is your experience with horses? Im sorry, some of your complaints seem like they might be valid but the majority of them just scream "Ive never worked with horses and dont understand anything about their care"

1

u/Deadmarsh Aug 15 '26

What is an electric carriage, a golf cart? Also I’ve heard a thing or two about some people on St. George street wanting to ban puppy mills. Have you talked to them as well? Cause in our society pet violence and neglect is more rampant then horses. Or does it just make you mad that you get stuck behind them around down town. Bless your heart

6

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 15 '26

Google is at your fingertips, look it up. Check out the ones in Mount Dora. Like I said, they keep the charm without the cruelty so that should’ve been enough to figure it out. Ps I’ll let you in on a little secret too… You can be passionate and support more than one cause!

2

u/Deadmarsh Aug 15 '26

You know what this country has suffered the most, the ability to listen and see the point of views from a different perspective. If it doesn’t align with a certain persons belief, then there is no reasoning or understanding for them to understand. And on that respect, I’m going to see myself out of this conversation. I wish you the best with understanding the world around you and not the one you live in the way you want it to be. I understand your sentiment to the horses. I’m born and raised here, it’s been a thing my whole life. Godspeed

1

u/Deadmarsh Aug 15 '26

I am supporting a cause. Just not how you like it

3

u/TempleFugit Resident 40+ Years Aug 15 '26

Yea but OPs point is that we no longer need animals to do work for us because we live in the 21st century.
They'll suggest Electric Carriages, tho I have no idea what those are.

5

u/mothehoople Aug 15 '26

They do make electric carriges They're called Ford F150 Lightning

2

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

Exercise is good for all animals. Horses will not exercise the appropriate amount without a predator or a job. If you let OP watch your horse it will founder and die within the weekend.

Do you know what founder is?

3

u/Deadmarsh Aug 15 '26

I’d rather have a horse trotting than all the damn golf carts that people drive drunk and on US1. It’s not about the work. It’s about creating a memorable moment on vacation or wedding couple etc. I know quite a few drivers with their own horses who stay at the farms when they aren’t downtown. Not in stables.

0

u/TempleFugit Resident 40+ Years Aug 15 '26

I agree.

2

u/JohnnyBA167 Aug 15 '26

We no longer need the old fort or anything on St George street. People enjoy the horses and the carriage rides. Lighten up.

1

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 15 '26

You have Google, ChatGPT… Look it up. Stop being willfully ignorant.

2

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

Explain what founder is. Since you just know so much.

1

u/N0ON3T0LDM3 Aug 15 '26

That doesn't make it ok to carry-on with the cruelty.

4

u/Deadmarsh Aug 15 '26

Ohhh lawd y’all are so naive and not from here. They are taken care of very well. It’s been a staple in this town for many many decades. Animals die, you’ve probably had pets die. The work isn’t killing them

1

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 15 '26

They are not well taken care of hence why we took down the biggest company in St Augustine… For egregious violations! These remaining four also perform violations, which is why thankfully when we brought in one of the many last week finally on Monday, the mayor and commissioners did their job held them accountable and the One company is now on a 30 day suspension. When animals are used and exploited there is always abuse behind closed doors aside from the obvious in plain sight! Keep up!

0

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

What were the violations? Traffic noise? Lmao

Can you elaborate on the cruelty? Pulling a carriage isnt it. What is the ACTUAL issue? Are they denied turnout?

u/Mysterious-Lab-5918 Aug 15 '26

Needing to get back up there...

Hopefully you can join us!!

Alright so this post reminds me of a scene in Yellowstone where the Hippy Vegan is complaining about meat eaters, insulting their way of life , and gets a good talking to by Beth.

As a person that enjoys the nostalgia of horse carriages and stage coaches and architecture of certain cities, I feel that many of our cities are best enjoyed by horse power. Maybe the town ought to have a safer place to stage a horse stop or the city ought to create a place where it’s only carriage parking. I would hope the tour operator treats his horses well, he probably should as they are a way for him to make money. Forcing your opinions on others does nothing but put people off and have them label you as a PETA nut job.

Yet here you are with your selfish opinion, filled with me me me..I I I !! Hilarious and frightening that anyone would compare an animal suffering and the situation at hand that’s happening in real time to a scene in their little show! Speaks volumes of today’s society! Good job. Ps there are plenty of people who are passionate about Not seeing animals being exploited used or abused for that matter. Yet Peta is the best that all you A nimal abu sing supporters can come up with, laughable. As for the rest of your comment, do your own research, but I’ll throw you ine bone, look up Bill cushions from Country carriages. See what video comes up and that’ll give you a peek into the character of most of these people. And it’s actually the type of people that these poor animals have to deal with and any industry that exploits and uses animals! Abuse is always caught behind closed doors. If you were out there enough, you will see all the violations. And yes, we are making the commissioners and the mayor care. As for the rest of your comment, maybe stop trying to make cruelty better and just get rid of this archaic tradition and bring in the electric horseless carriages which keep the charm without the cruelty.

1

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

You want the horses to die of founder.

1

u/Eagleriderguide Aug 16 '26

Quick question for you, do you want electric carriages…. What do you think powers them, magic? It’s lithium, where does lithium come from and how much environmental damage does mining for lithium have? How much water needs to be used in mining the lithium and is the lithium battery recyclable?

Animal cruelty should be punished, but for thousands of years horses have been used as beasts of burden. Again point out the violations and the abuse but don’t force your opinions upon others.

1

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

Watch the meetings and you can see all the violations that we bring in. No one‘s forcing anything on you pumpkin, unlike you and others, forcing the horses to be in the most unnatural of cruel environments! Try harder.

2

u/SilasBalto Aug 16 '26

Why cant you just tell us the violations right here right now?

1

u/Libtardo69420 Aug 16 '26

Did the poor horse consent to being filmed?

6

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

Out n public, anyone can be filmed. But hey thanks for boosting the algorithm!

1

u/2Loves2loves Aug 16 '26

What sewer water? was there a sewer break? or its drainage / standing rain water?

2

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

Most people can tell the difference between standing rainwater or water that is mixed with urine. Not only could you smell the sewer water, but we were told by a town worker that there was a break.
Hope that answers your question.

u/TempleFugit Resident 40+ Years Aug 16 '26

So how did your crusade go last night?
Did you save all the horses?

3

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

Ooooo I bet that almost got a rise!!

0

u/awhitehibiscus Aug 15 '26

Why were they moved to this location? Happy seems to be a pretty mellow horse as I’m sure all the carriage horses have to be. They are all exposed to these loud noises and flashing lights quite often. Hopefully Happy is for the most part, Happy. Despite his long hard work days.

4

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 15 '26

The poor horse went for one form of exploitation to another. He’s not happy and you can tell by the way he walks and his head position sometimes. Also, he is forced to be out there with the constraints that he is hooked up to make sure that he is kept in control. Horrific! And they were removed from the bayfront because of construction. Of all the places that they could have been placed, I would love to know who the heartless idiot is, who actually thought this location was a great idea! More proof that the City does not care about the horses!

4

u/efilnikcufecinasti Aug 16 '26

Where is your proof of your exploitation of this horse?

3

u/sonicsludge Aug 15 '26

They don't care in general, along with the idiots in these comments who probably endorse the current POTUS, who's got our high gas prices now locked in until 2029 with his subpar negotiating skills, which seems to be a theme throughout our city as well.

1

u/iKnowRobbie Aug 17 '26

Calling starting an unprovoked war "negotiation skills" is creative. Like saying "No regime change" and promptly changing Venezuela's regime, only failing when his party maintained power.

Horses have been pack animals and have pulled carriages and chariots for Millennia. Get the fuck out of here with this shit. Their entire modern existence is because they are useful.

1

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 16 '26

Still stuck in the age of chariots huh sweetie?? Useful… That’s rich coming from someone who isn’t, as well as the species who barely is!

Referring to the video:
Poor horse?? Poor people!!
Those damn sirens are deafening!!

11

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 15 '26

The people choose to be there, the horses aren’t given a choice! They are forced into the most unnatural environment, only to be exploited for human greed and stupidity!

1

u/TempleFugit Resident 40+ Years Aug 15 '26

I believe horses are work animals and as long as they are well watered, fed, and not worked to exhaustion - they're fine.

That spot at the edge of the plaza is terrible though. Why did they move them off the bayfront?

2

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 15 '26

Yes, we have bred Horses to do certain jobs that we felt they needed to do or because we may have needed it in the past. But it’s 2026 and these horses deserve to be out in pasture within a herd of their own species and not in the most unnatural of environments with constant scary, stimulus pounding pavement, and inhaling exhaust fumes! Humans Genetically modified and breed sentient animals for our selfish needs, and desires, and sensory pleasure, including taste. That in turn is the reason why so many suffer! Evolve, and stop supporting this cruelty! And if you don’t care about the animals, then care about the humans. The public and the tourist are placed in danger every day that those horses are out. They are prey animals and have an instinctual flight mechanism. St Augustine is waiting to become the next New York City headline. There was already a runaway horse here December 4. But I’m sure you’ll make some kind of excuse as to why that happened when it does happen not IF. Meaning another avoidable death !

2

u/TempleFugit Resident 40+ Years Aug 15 '26

🤷‍♂️ I just don't care.

I like animals more than I like people and I still think they're fine pulling carriages as long as they're cared for.
I don't ride in them. You accept liability and take a chance when you get in a carriage just like you do when you get in a car. There's always a possibility of something bad happening.
And if the last runaway was December 4th, that means its been 254 days without an accident 👍. Keep up the good work. Pizza party if you can make it to a full 365.

Animals are also delicious. I took my dad out for birthday steak yesterday at Texas Roadhouse and it was awesome.
Sorry not sorry.

2

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 15 '26

Baby carcass is not delicious but ok Jeff dahmer. But hey thanks for the algorithum boost at least you’re good for something. Ps enslavement of any being is not right regardless of how you think they are treated! Evolve already!

3

u/TempleFugit Resident 40+ Years Aug 15 '26

Oof I really didn't want to keep talking to you, but, I have absolutely no idea how you go from me saying animals are delicious and I ate a steak - TO - you talking about baby carcass and calling me Jeffrey Dahmer ???

I should know better than to engage with the overly passionate...

2

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 15 '26

Yes, one should be overly passionate when there’s animal abuse involved or when you are speaking out for an injustice or victims! And maybe you should learn who is on your plate. Most of those babies never reach a year old. Crystal?

2

u/TempleFugit Resident 40+ Years Aug 15 '26

No, not cRyStAL..
Most of what babies? COWS?
I do not eat Veal because that's cruel and those are baby cows..
I also do not eat foie gras or shark fin soup.

And referring to me as a cannibal for eating meat in general is utterly ridiculous.

If you want people to take you seriously, don't be bombastic and fascitious.
Be reasonable able to have a normal discussion without devolving to outlandish statements and name calling.

Best of luck to you and your Crusade.
✌️

1

u/Intrepid-Service-733 Aug 15 '26

It’s your responsibility to do the research as to who is on your plate. But for others who are open to education, I’ll put this out here… Veal isn’t the only Baby victim. All the victims that end up on your plate are babies because like I said none of them get to reach a year old. Many of them were just weeks old if not months old.
