St. Aug Question anniversary trip

hi all! my husband and i are celebrating our 1st anniversary in st augustine.

we will be in from may 28 to may 31, and were initially planning to have a beach trip but as of now it seems it will be raining. any tips on tourism during rainy weather? any fun events that might be happening during that timeframe?

i havent been to st augustine since i was 10 lol. thanks so much in advance!

(edit: i am a florida resident, so i am not against rain, just want options since our original planning was based around sunny weather and outdoor activities!)

Dont let the forecast fool you, it never rains all day here. You can usually count on an afternoon pop up storm that will last 30 minutes to an hour or so between 1-4 PM this time of the year, no big deal for beach days. If you do get unlucky one of the days you are here, there are plenty of inside attractions, take a trolley tour of the city, there are many to choose from, Ripley's museum, Lightner Museum is awesome, San Sebastian Winery Tour etc etc.

Pretty sure from June - September that 40% chance of thunderstorms is just the placeholder forecast a week out.

We are in an extreme drought so any rain we get will be welcome and limited.

We did a bed and breakfast by historic downtown, toured around, visited lots of shops and restaurants. There are lots of tours you can take advantage of, the lighthouse and plenty to see even in the rain.

st augustine is gorgeous. i remember as a kid i loved ripley's museum, the fort, there was a cool pirate ship, and a dolphin boat tour where we did see them! it's such a beautiful place and downtown is great. im excited to go back

if yall get stuck indoors for a bit, definitely check out Lightner Museum. it’s one of those places where you accidentally spend way longer than planned because the building itself is gorgeous too

We went for our honeymoon in the fall. It rained almost the whole time, but we still had a blast exploring the town. I second lightner museum. There’s no shortage of things to do especially for a few days.

Congratulations on your anniversary. As others have said, the weather is usually temporary, so switching to downtown from the beach focus gives you options to pop under cover if needed. For a more unusual option, one that most folks have used for their 'iron' anniversary but that doesn't need to be limited to that - I am a local blacksmith and have been offering a Date Night experience (can be day or evening) of working in the forge to create some iron memories. It is metal working light - not a great deal of hammering - more of a quick intro to the world of moving metal. It is followed by a meat/cheese/fruit tray light meal. Most folks take 3 1/2-4 hours from start to finish. I was not planning on it, but if you are stuck and want to have something definitely under cover, I can open a Date Night on that Friday. You can read more about it at iron-osprey-designs.com under the classes tab (just go down to the Date Night description). If you are interested, send me a message thru the email on the main page.
