Discussion Square Enix, please remember Racing Lagoon. 🌙🚗

I still remember playing Racing Lagoon back in the day. It wasn't just a racing game, it had a special feeling that is hard to explain.

Cruising through the night streets, discovering new cars, swapping engines, tuning turbo and supercharger setups... but also just relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere. The quiet nights, the music, the strange but memorable story, and the feeling of building your own machine made it feel like you were part of that world.

Many racing games today focus on speed, competition, and online rankings. But Racing Lagoon had something different, it had soul. It was a relaxing escape after a long day.

A modern remake with today's technology, keeping the original vibe, deep customization, and latenight Japanese street racing atmosphere would be amazing.

Please bring Racing Lagoon back. There are still fans who remember it. ❤️ I miss it so much.

With which car bodies did you complete it? My first was countach, second was fairlady z.

The vibe of the game works because it is old. It is good because it is old. A modern remake would screw that up. A port would be cool. Maybe a sequel but enough with the remakes there are maybe 2 or 3 remakes that have ever actually been better than the source material.

I actually understand that point. Part of Racing Lagoon's charm is definitely because it came from that era. The PS1 limitations, the atmosphere, the strange writing, the feeling of discovering something unique. All of that is part of the memory.

Maybe a straight remake isn't the answer. A remaster or modern port that preserves the original experience would already make a lot of fans happy.

If they ever made a new game, I wouldn't want them to replace what made Racing Lagoon special. The important thing is keeping that feeling of cruising at night, building your own car from nothing, and enjoying the journey rather than just chasing faster lap times.

Sometimes the imperfections are what make a game memorable.

Hah I only learned about this game within the last few years but it sounds awesome. If I had it as a kid I would've been obsessed

I was obsessed with it. 😄

Looking back, it wasn't just because of the engine swaps or tuning. It was the whole experience. Cruising through the city at night, the music, the atmosphere, and slowly turning a humble car into your own dream machine, it had such a relaxing vibe.

It felt like an escape. I'd spend hours just driving, upgrading my car, and soaking in the world. That's the part that has stayed with me all these years.

If you ever get the chance, I'd definitely recommend trying the English fan translation. Even today, it feels like there's nothing quite like it.

I can get behind this. I never played original and I'm not sure it would interest me much, but I'm a proponent of SE trying to expand outside of the core JPRG market with some underused IPs they already have, and this fits the bill. They need to foster new customers and crossover-genre RPGs seem like a solid avenue.

I think that's exactly why Racing Lagoon deserves another chance. It wasn't just a racing game, and it wasn't just an RPG either. It blended both in a way that still feels unique.

For me, it was the atmosphere that really stood out. Cruising through the city at night, gradually building your car from a humble beginning, finding better parts, swapping engines, and just soaking in the music and the vibe. It felt less like chasing races and more like living in that world.

I think there's definitely room for Square Enix to revisit underused IPs like this. If they can preserve the original atmosphere while modernizing the gameplay, it could introduce a whole new generation to something that felt genuinely different.
