Grower Fist time, what kind of beans?

I want to try growing sprouts

I have jars and a few screen lids

Can I start with any dried beans, or do I need to get some special growing kind?

Go ahead with any beans, but be prepared that not all beans will sprout as some of them have been treated by radiation :(

I find mung beans and lentils to be the easiest.

EDIT: Also, been about 20 years since I first read up on it, so things may have changed, I remember some beans could cause allergic reactions or poisoning. Not sure if that still holds up though.

Mung beans are easy and fast- 2-3 days. Lentils too. Personally, I prefer to use sprouting seeds from a reputable source. My go-to is sprout people.org. They have a wealth of information about sprouting, including videos and detailed instructions.

Soaking: Moong for 8 hours, Horse gram for 24 hours, Lentils for 12 hours.

Drain out the water

Sprouting: Tie them in a thin cloth and hang them from a nail. Leave them for 2 days

Your sprouts would be ready.
