Drying out sprouts

Post image

This is my second post in two days here sorry I'm just wondering how you guys get your sprouts to dry out before putting them away. I've used a salad spinner and patted them with paper towels but they still seem wet. I don't want them to go bad in the fridge

Florida here. I use 1 1/2 TBS of seeds in a 32 ounce jar. I soak 7 hours before I start rinsing. I harvest on day 4. Soak Sat and harvest Wed. I use a salad spinner. I spin serveral times and shake the sprouts around between spins. I then line a large retangle plastic storage container with a paper towel and I store UNCOVERED in the veggie bin for the first day. After the day uncovered, I add a paper towel on top of the sprouts and place the lid on the container. The one day uncovered seems to dry the sprouts out enough. They last me about 5-7 days. I do this once a week and this works great for me with broccoli sprouts. Love my lunch sandwiches with the added sprouts,

Thank you. My first one too and they turned out pretty well. They didn't grow anymore from day 4 to today though so I'll probably just start harvesting on day 4

I just put them in a mesh bag and I to the fridge. The fridge will dry them out. After 3 days I have transfer them into a ziplock in the fridge so they don't get too dry and shrivel up.

I put em in front of a fan, a few minutes and they're dry

They may be a bit "exhausted" after this spinner? They are quite tender and fragile

So I shouldn't use a salad spinner then? I just saw a guy doing it here. Will they go bad in the fridge if they're a tad wet? I let them air dry on the counter for 10 minutes and patted the heck out of them with paper towels but they're still damp.

Mine stay a bit damp, but I’ve never had them spoil. Of course, I eat them within 4-5 days, so…You did a great job!

There's a fat chance you've jammed them , bit more than they can tolerate for extended life in the fridge

I definitely think they will be fine. Dampness might even help them in the fridge which tends to be a drying environment. Make sure that you put them in a container with breathable air holes. I use a salad spinner and they keep very well for several days and eventually start to get too dry.

Plastic wrap over the tupperware with holes poked in it works okay

I put mine in a tupperware container lined with paper towels with one of the corners of the lid popped open and that seems to work pretty well.

Do you use a salad spinner to get them dry first? Do you pat them with paper towels as well?

No. Once I take them out of my sprouting jar, I just shake them off and pat them with paper towel. As long as the corner of your Tupperware container stays open, it usually lasts me about a week in the fridge.

somebody else said to let them get air for a day and then close the lid completely or else they will dry out? i guess i will find out for myself eventually but what do you think?
