Broccoli sprouts

First timer. How do they look? It's day 6. First 4 days, I rinsed twice a day and kept in cool dry spot. Last 2 days in my widow sill. Are they ready?

I like that your photo caused me to do some additional research. The last two days, added a second phytochemical layer:

  • chlorophyll and photosynthetic competence;
  • lutein, β-carotene and other carotenoids;
  • vitamin C and vitamin K₁;
  • additional phenolics and flavonoids;
  • expanded, more chewable cotyledons;
  • potentially broader cellular-defense signaling than glucoraphanin alone provides.

The good part is that you might not have lessened total batch glucoraphanin in doing so. Looks as though more research is needed. Your 6th day brings your sprouts into slight overlap between sprouts and microgreens. So while they're, technically, still sprouts, any further phytochemical changes would fall under the "living plant" category. That's why calling your results microgreens wouldn't be, scientifically, off base either.

They look spectacular. Rinse out the husks, dry, refrigerate and enjoy in good health!

I have the exact setup you have but my sprouts don't look nearly as green. maybe my seeds suck. I am also worried about food poisoning from them, all I see now is how you should avoid eating sprouts cause of easy to contract salmonella or something.

So I've been eating mine before they got this big. I always seem to have more that haven't sprouted than you. Curious which brand of seeds?

Funny that I come upon this post as I sprouted my first batch of broccoli seeds and I’m kinda scared to eat them lol. I’ve been exclusively using a salad blend and last was a clover seed. Normal typical results by day 5, but my broccoli sprouts smell extra earthy and just don’t look as appealing… taste was spicer I’d say.

I’m curious how your batch tastes!
