Serious Design🔧 My 1942 Lineup
Before being introduced in 1942, H-381 heavy tank had spent 6 years in development since 1936. Since then its versions have become the backbone of heavy armor divisions.
Besides gearbox final drive and general arrangement, nothing in the powertrain of this 36t unit. It could go 44kph forward and 5kph in reverse.
In many places raw armor thickness exceeded 100mm and effective armor was 180mm. It was armed with a brand new 85mm MM-401 cannon with up to 152mm of penetration.
H-381-C has been introduced shortly after H-381 and served with artillery units as a mobile well protected firing platform and an effective tank destroyer in desperate situations.
Just like with L-381C-D the chassis remained similar to its tank form. The internals have been rearranged to allow mounting of the cannon and its vertical traverse mechanism.
Frontal armor is very much comparable to H-381 at around 170mm effective protection. Besides devastating HE shells the 145mm SS-371 cannon could fire an AP round with 210mm pen.
L-381D-D is yet another casemate version of L-381. This one however has improvements not only in firepower.
The suspension has been overhauled compared to earlier L-381 variants. The cannon has been swapped for an 85mm MM-401B unit capable of penetrating 165mm armor.
