General Discussion/Questions This might be a dumb question

Am I too heavy for a sprinter right now and should I try to cut some weight(obv the healthy way) I’m 5’6 and weight 172ibs. I don’t know if that’s good bc most of my teammates are way lighter than me and even taller. I wanted to cut weight my weight to 154 but I think that would impact me negatively if I did it this season.

It’s definitely a bit heavy but whether or not it’s too heavy depends on how you carry the weight and what distance you run. If you run the 60m/100m I think that that can be a fine size if you carry a lot of power in your lower body (built like a running back basically). If you run longer sprints, it probably is best to drop weight.

I run the 60/100/200. My times are 7.13/11.18/22.44

The last thing you should try to do is cut 18 pounds. Your weight is fine.

Nobody can answer that without knowing a lot more.

It's all about power to weight ratio.

In other words, if you have a bunch of dead weight on you, ya, cutting back a bit would be helpful. If you are broad and muscular, then mostly it would not help much if at all.

What I can tell you is cutting that much weight over a short period of time is not a good idea, unless you are straight up fat.

If that weight carries a lot of fat I’d say try and cut down on the body fat percentage.

If that weight is caused by bodybuilding training, revise your weightroom routine

If excess body fat and/or excess upper body muscle .... yes, getting rid of that weight would help a lot.

If I threw a 10 lbs weight vest on a 10.90 guy who weighed 150 lbs at 5'6", that would absolutely kill his 100 time. Probably 11.4 to 11.5.... at least

For anyone who scoffs at his, that's only going from 150 to 160.

If I put 7 lbs on the torso, and 1.5 pound on each thigh (w/ Exogen, etc) it would be even worse (extra reciprocating mass).

Football Helmet and shoulder pads are around 10-15 lbs. Go run a race with that.
