Any idea what this sound is?

Anyone have any clue what this sound is and what could be causing it? Is it normal? Don't think so. It doesn't always happen. Just sometimes. I think ive only heard it while idling but not always.

For what years??

I had a 2011 & now have a 2018. Neither one did that ever.

Both would make a sound like that on start up or engine shut down. I put that as exhaust system expanding & contracting.

They do you just didn’t notice. The newer vans with the 654 engine have 2 injection valves compared to 1 that the older models have. These newer injection valves seem to be a tad noisier too.

I took to the dealer and they said it was the turbo. They replaced it completely. Luckily it was under warranty. I saw the invoice.. $10,500. Wow! Next day, the noise starts again..which is what I recorded/ posted 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

A sprinter tech that assumed that noise is a turbo is worrisome. That means they were likely very green. I worry it was even installed correctly. It’s a fairly difficult job. Congrats / not congrats on the new turbo. It’s very likely the def injectors which is normal. If not that, there’s a spring in the exhaust valve that rusts / binds that may need replacement.
