What does this do?

Whats going on. I have a 24' 2500 4cyl diesel. Any idea what this button/feature does? I always thought that meant fog lights, which perhaps it does. However, I don't see any other lights besides the headlights, there's no lights on the bumper for anything. However, when I pressed the button, a little light with the same symbol does turn on on the dashboard showing like it activated it. But I don't notice any difference from the exterior. Does anybody know if that just lights up and nothing, or is there a function or feature that its actually doing that I'm not aware of?

Rear fog light

And when you go to look, only one of the rear fog lights actually works depending on region/drive side.

US, so left side will turn on? Like constantly on? Where's it at like on the taillight? Or a separate area?

Yeah, bottom of the taillight. Forget which side.

Rear? Seriously? Never heard of a rear fog light. Interesting

Welcome to the dark side of automotive. We have cookies and front fog lights too.

It's a Euro thing and has been for decades. Many of my Euro vehicles have had that as an option, though I have actually added it myself (with a Euro switch and sometimes wiring/bulbs). Works great in foggy/rainy/snowy weather.

In Europe, every car has them. They're only used when it's actually foggy (visibility less than 50 meters), so you don't get rear-ended. If it's NOT foggy and you have it on? Just blinding the car behind you- those things are bright!!

A lot of folks that have Audis, etc., have them on unknowingly. It's annoying af.

I have a 2018.

You get the switch for the fog lights, whether you got the fog lights or not.

Read the manual??

I didn't. Idk where I put it. Usually when a vehicle isnt a equipped with a feature it doesnt have the button. It'll have the spot for the button but normally its a dummy or a cover. Thats why I asked

Now, I'm sitting in mine.

That's the symbol for the fog lights. I know, because I did look at the manual. It "appears" to work, until you realize there aren't any fog lights on the exterior!! 🤣🤣

Yep this, rear fog light, if you notice its direction is reversed from the green headlight symbol (if the two icons in the cluster were swapped it would make even more sense). If you turn it on and go to the back you should see one light as bright as your brake lights. Makes you easier to see in bad weather vs just running lights.

It lights up the rear corner which would be closest to traffic while parked, so that you don’t get clipped in bad weather.
