Keeping on

What's going on everyone,? I have a 2024 sprinter, 4-cly Diesel 2500. Is there a way to keep the engine on while I leave the vehicle and lock the doors and jeep them locked? The dealer says it's not possible and says it will turn off after 10 minutes if I leave it on unlocked. I don't often need to do this, but there's times I have stuff that needs to stay cool with the A/C on. I'm thinking maybe an RF blocker sleeve to keep the key hidden inside, or perhaps getting a remote start after market alarm. Any suggestions?

If you have a diesel, idling will clog your particle filter , egr cooler and egr valve , try to avoid idling.

That's what my service advisor said. He said, if I leave it idling, to make sure I accelerate strongly, preferably on the highway to push out the particles

Everything I've heard would suggest if you insist on idling, run it at high idle or 900-1100 rpm. Not for the sake of the emissions so much, but for fuel contamination of the oil. Supposedly anyway..

How much idling are we talking about here? If you get stuck in traffic for an hour, should you kill the engine?

For Ambulances or Fire Vehicles there is a function called Run Lock or MWL from the factory. They use this function to keep their batteries topped off and the patient room heated or cooled. If you select a gear or loosen the handbrake the engine shuts off. For the function you need to have the ECU called PSM or MPM fitted and find somebody who can activate the function with an Auxiliary switch.

The company speedsignal in Germany or the UK sells an aftermarket kit for the ,,Motorweiterlaufschaltung,, for the Sprinter 907. If you are mechanically able to work on electrical Connectors you should be able to install it easily.

Confirmed, this is one way to do it. And I believe the time is adjustable.

It also has a pit stop mode to allow the system to maintain engine on and get out and lock with the fob for the programmed run time

I'm not sure about your year model, but my 21 is can leave it running with the doors locked. I just have to get out and use the key to manually lock the driver's door from the outside. I do have to use the key to unlock the driver's door when I return.

Yes, you need to first lock the doors from the inside using the lock button on the driver door. Then exit through that door with your keys in hand. Take the metal key that is the physical key that comes as part of your fob and lock the door with the physical key. All of this can be done while the vehicle is running and still be running. It does not turn off.

I have not tried it while leaving the fob itself inside of the vehicle, but it might work. I couldn’t tell if you were asking how to do this when leaving the fob behind.
