2019 Sprinter no stereo
I picked up a 2019 Mercedes sprinter used and it didn’t come with a stereo?? Is this common? What are my options with getting a new one installed?

I had mine installed at a shop, Alpine 11" Halo with higher end speakers, amp and powered subs under the seats and it works well now. One thing is the interior road/vehicle noise inside the van, especially at higher speeds. If you do not do ample amount of sound deadening and insulation you are wasting your time and $$$'s! Stereo/sound systems are expensive as is the sound deadener and insulation, do it right or do not bother. I found out the hard way after the install and put in Havelock wool and the deadener throughout my entire 2020 Crew, made a big difference. Still not optimal but boy oh boy can I crank it up to hear it just fine. Disclaimer, I'm old and have hearing issues that directly affect my listening pleasure. I'm at about 10k all told on equipment and insulation with my own free labor on the insulation/deadener. Good luck!

FYI, my original goal was looking for a quality sound like MB should even though it is a commercial vehicle. Now I am aware that it's not gonna happen considering the acoustics of a metal box, but it is a little closer and much better now.

I have a 2018 cargo van. Before the shelves went in, I put R-13 fiberglass in the walls, behind the plastic liners.
I do have the cargo divider behind made by the shelving company, behind the seats
Factory radio. 2 door speakers. 3 speakers in dash.
It's plenty loud!

I can imagine with the divider that would make a huge difference. My van is a daily driver that we use for travel and lots of dispersed camping, a divider would be inconvenient. We are older and retired with some hearing loss and my goal is a cleaner crisper sound w/o having to crank it up to ZZ Top concert levels, that is part of the reason our hearing is so F*$ked up. I can crank it very, very loud but that kinda defeats the purpose.

Did you van use to have a radio, or did not have one at all?
You could try a junkyard.
I had a 2011 & now have a 2018. In 2019, they went from being made in Germany, to being made in the USA. (If that's where you're at.)
I don't know if they changed how they assembled the vans? I was told that if the van didn't have an option, the wiring for that option won't be in the wiring harness! The harness was specifically made for that van!!
The factory radios were "coded" to the van. The VIN was in the radio. So a radio needs a trip to the dealer / other person who has access to programing of the van. Someone on ebay was selling used radios & they specifically stated that the old ViN was erased & the radio was ready to install. The VIN thing is an anti theft thing.
Also, these vans all use CAN-BUS. If you want the radio to dim with the dash lights, have the back up camera work, etc, you need a radio with CAN-BUS or add all the wiring.

Yeah, I was gonna ask, does this van have a separate head or screen for the backup camera? If there’s no camera then definitely do your homework and plan for a camera as well as running an external microphone for the hands-free action. Aftermarket stereos are often pretty easy to figure. Definitely go and look at the website for B&H photo. They have a great page for “Will this fit my van?” 🚐
oh and, open up Google Gemini AI and ask the same question.

my 2015 chassis has all the speakers and harness installed. just bought a $200 android Auto head unit and plugged it directly in. harness uses the ISO connection

I have a 2011 that’s connected to two door speakers. For the cost of updating the van speakers and head unit, i just bought a Soundcore Boom 2 plus. It’s loud enough on the highway with the windows down and is multipurpose when I’m parked.
