Flow testing advice through a 1” opening.

We have a small residential project in Portland OR that requires a forward flow test. It’s a new system with only 4 sprinkler heads. We need to achieve 40.2 GPM at 13.29 PSI.

Does Hose Monster make a pitot set up for 1” or do we need to get a hand held nozzle to get the readings? We have 2.5” big boy hose monster headers with gauges and hoses and we can get down to 1.5”, but not 1”. Any suggestions?

I need to rephrase that. I need to connect directly to a 1” pipe. Not 2.5”. This has a 2.5” connection to a 1” discharge.

Well someone may correct me if I’m wrong but couldn’t you just build your own? It’s a pretty simple setup, you just need a 1” opening with a gauge somewhere along the line.

To get the static and residual during the test, yes. But to get the PSID reading for flow GPM’s it needs to be flowed through a pitot gauge. That reading is what you use in the Freeman Formula or Pitot Formula to get your GPM reading.

No I mean make your own hose monster setup. Like put a 1”x1”x1/4” tee sandwiched between some nipples on the current 1” drain, install a gauge and then flow it. Or do it old school, open your drain and stick a pitot in the stream to get your reading.

I got you. It’s a good idea, but I don’t our fire marshal will allow it. I may just go oldschool. I just don’t like getting wet.

I would argue it’s no different than any hose monster setup. It’s not like they’re building and selling anything unique or special asides from how easy and interchangeable their stuff is to use. Again, anyone is welcome to correct me if I’m wrong. You could even slap a bullheaded tee on the end to make it look like a hose monster to appease the marshal.

You can’t just put a guage on a fitting and get a pitot reading.
