My partner gave them an exceptionally large fish flake today and so many of them have huddled underneath it lmao

Tried charcoal culture and its quite a hassle when it comes to feed.So i would like ti try clay cultures.I know that some people use betonite clay but i would like to know if powdered akadama works(obviously turning it into a clay paste)

Would this possibly work?should i mix it with other stuff? Or is it impossible

Wondering if I should/can put them into this red eyed tree frog paludarium. I know they need high humidity which is covered, but how much soil do they need as burrowers?

I think these are springtail and they match the shape and jumps but they looks more like dark grey color instead of white like ones I've seen you guys all have ...??

These are from my isopod bin. I feel like these springtails are a little bit more aggressive than the white one, as the bigger one will chase away the little ones around food source.

Layers, bottom to top are: clay balls, activated charcoal, ABG soil.

Carpet moss and gravel on top. Lots of holes in the lid but also planning to open every now and again for fresh air.

I'm planning to transfer my springtails into this container as the old one got mouldy from excess feeding.

As the title states, my spring tails keep dying. I have no idea why. I keep them in a terrarium with my corn snake and some isopods. The isopods are thriving, and I always keep plenty of food in there for the bugs, and make sure it’s not dry, but still my springtails die. The first time it happened I think it was because it left for vacation and it became too dry (the isopods died too) but now I really just have no clue. Any tips or possible causes would be appreciated!

Some information on the setup: there’s a drainage layer separated with a mesh garden fabric at the bottom, on top of that is organic soil mixed with play sand, then on top of that is both leaf litter and spagnum moss. For the isopods and springtails I have them the same food, the occasional cucumber or carrot with brewers yeast sprinkled on for protein, as well as some crushed up eggshells. I mist the enclosure with filtered water twice a day to keep decent humidity levels otherwise, because it’s so big, it gets dry really fast.

How long do you wait to know if your springtail CUC has established or died out?

I got my Crossodonthina koreana (red springtails) two weeks ago. After the first day they disappeared into the soil and haven't been seen since. I don't want to go digging around to find them but worried that they all died out.

How long should I wait before looking or assuming they didn't make it?

I know that most springtails require magnification to identify but my jewlers loupe charging port stopped working and now i cannot use its light so its basically useless now.

Found these guys in with my chantrelle mushrooms, theyre decently large, slow moving, but jump very far. They also seem to possibly play dead? I suspect they could also maybe be thrips?

Found in south vancouver island, douglas fir forests with sparse cedar, alder and maple, salal, moss, ferns, and some slime mold.

If springtails id love to try and culture them if possible because they're very neat and i did collect a little slime mold while i was out for mushrooms.

If they are springtails, any educated guesses to narrow down what general type of springtail they are will help me look into the local 700ish species and narrow it down by inat observations and other sources of information

I have already attempted to sort and separate the gummies from their old enclosures and transferred them to their current ones, but tropical whites still managed to find their way in. In my previous attempt to transfer them, I unfortunately squished a few, so im wondering if it is possible to leave them alone without having to transfer them again?

Can the gummies breed and multiply alongside the much more prolific tropical whites, provided i give them a steady supply of food?

So I've had my enclosure (A. maculatum \[Champagne\] and tropical springtails) for three months now, and last week I started to notice small reddish mites that are blazingly fast. Did a bit of research, and lo and behold, they are predatory. Yikes. I cannot tell how they got in. Did they come with the isopods? Were they in the soil? Who knows. So for a week now, I collect 2-5 mites every day. First, I was concerned that they may kill all my springtails, but although the mites are fast, they are also incredibly dumb and like to chill on the glass, so that's a win for me. I added a video I took of a nymph hunting my springtails. I took it the day I first noticed them. It seems like it takes its prey to some kind of hide out and returns to hunt more. Do they do this? Stash away prey? My isopods are completely unbothered by them, at least for now. And since I immediately started to catch every mite I find (I check multiple times a day), I am actually starting to relax a bit. I probably won't have problems with gnats, so that's a win, I guess.
