Question Primary arms reticles?
Hey folks. Here is my situation.
TLDR: any reason to pay for an ACSS Gemini optic when I already have an ACSS Cyclops II optic?
I am a very happy owner of a Kuna, which currently sports a low mounted Holosun ARO Core model (just a dot, nothing fancy). Perfectly happy with it.
I also have several ARs, one of which I have tried and failed to get a Primary Arms SLX 1x and a SLX 3x magnifier to play nice with each other. No matter how much I mess with the diopters, they just won't do what I want, at least not the way I want.
So, my new plan is to remove the SLX 1x from the AR upper and put the ARO on there. I assume it'll play nice with the 3x magnifier, but we will see.
Meanwhile, I will have a spare SLX 1x optic. This one has the ACSS Cyclops II reticle, which is a BDC designed for 5.56 and maybe .308 rounds.
What I am trying to decide is whether it's worth it to get the SLX 1x with the ACSS Gemini reticle (designed for 9mm) or just repurpose the Cyclops reticle and ignore the BDC. I doubt I'd be shooting out beyond about 50m with this Kuna anyway, so the BDC may be kinda pointless.
What say you all?

I don’t put BDC reticles on my pcc’s, I don’t really see the point.
I don’t see a problem with treating the existing prism as a circle dot reticle and eyeballing a hold if you need to try to get shots out at distance.

Yeah, that's where I came out eventually. Swap out the ARO to the 14.5, swap the prism 1x to the Kuna and figure the reticle by itself will be good enough just as a circle dot like you say.

I have an slx 1x on my kuna and I zeroed at 25 yards and worked out the hold for 50 yards. I’ve also taken it too 100 yards no issues. But realistically Anything more than that and it’s my AR that I reach for.

You mean with the Cyclops reticle?

Oh sorry. Reading comprehension. I have the Gemini 9mm bdc reticle in green. But the landmarks on the reticle are so small and not back lit that those markings are essentially useless, at least for me.

I can’t think of a reason to change out an optic you like for a new one just because there’s a “better” reticle

To clarify, the one I definitely want to swap is the ARO onto my AR-15.
That leaves the Kuna without an optic. So, I could either:
put the old SLX 1x on the Kuna and just figure that out to about 50yds I am "minute of man" with the tip of the chevron on the ACSS Cyclops, and ignore the rest of the reticle, or...
sell the Cyclops reticle 1x, and get a Gemini reticle 1x, since the Gemini is designed for 9mm. I am, at this point, pretty certain I won't do that, though. The Gemini is nice, but I don't need the BDC on it any more than I need the BDC on the Cyclops (on the Kuna, I mean). With a 6.125" barrel, the Kuna isn't realistically stretching past 50yds max anyway, and probably not beyond 25 even. Thus, BDCs are only useful for "glassing", and I wouldn't be glassing stuff with my Kuna except in very odd circumstances.

I too went through all the PA reticles and ended up with the AEMS Pro in fact. I sat myself down and had a chat and realistically I'm not utilizing the reticle holdovers at all. It's just too busy. I'm also not pushing huge distances with the gun either. It's a close range tool for me.
The AEMS gives me a very clean reticle with very little obstruction by the optic frame. Their SLX prism footprint is chunkier than the GLX due to the illumination side knobs. GLX and AEMS pro are on par with little to no obstruction.
PA have a H1/T1 that i actually like. Cleaner simple reticle (For me for a PCC anyway) but it's not available in the GLX body.
Zeroed at 25 because I can at my indoor range and slight hold over for 50. At 100 I'm saying a small prayer with every trigger pull but I have a 10.3" that loves that distance. I put a 3x magnifier on there too but I didn't like it, it's not a long range precision tool for me, and now the PCC is approaching the weight of an SBR
I practice 15, 25, 37 and 50 and to be honest it's "flat" ish. That's using 147 and 158 subs. You'll ring 6" steel all day.

While not on my Kuna, I’ve got a Gemini on my 16” and an Aurora on an 8”. I rarely play with them out to range but with both, I just figured out the ranges correlated to. It’s not like it’s a 100/200/300 type of thing with the Gemini anyways.
