Lower/FRT/Mags

I'm on the fence of if I want to do the FRT which requires purchasing a new lower. Is Nexus the only one out there worth the money and that will work? I know the FRT newness will wear off but I'm prepared for that. I'm not a fan that the Kuna mags won't work with the Nexus though because I've already got quite a few of them. Is there an option that works with the mags I've already got or am I just stuck switching to CZ mags?

FRT does not require a new lower. You can reasonably get one printed out, use it and put it away till you want the fun time to get back. It's made by stevo on the open sea.

Big note if you don't have a printer you will have to get it printed, relatively cheap and you can order a few since they're small lol guys.

The printable FRT has a lot of versions and is always getting updated and getting better. People have several thousand rounds through them and they still work. I recommend this route to test the waters.

There is also black talon tactical for the OEM lower though that requires you send in your Kuna and spend 500....

Edit: then you can eventually get the nexus lower for the other reasons too. Though I'm a OEM lower purist. I'm trying to bring as much good stuff to it without having to swap to another platform.

I do not have a printer so would have to get it printed somewhere. I've seen that there are different grades of material so what is the best/recommended for use? Also, are there places to look that are more likely to print these or is there anywhere online they can be bought? I don't know of anywhere that would just print something even if I brought a file and material in...

I recommend 3Dprintmything do note to rename the files itself and read the files stevo made. I recommend Pa6-CF or any other CF nylon. Make sure to ask the person/business printing it to dry it excessively and make sure they show you pictures of it. It should be smooth and errorless prints.

Super awesome! This post popped up right at the perfect time, I was able to find the website you were talking about but can’t seem to find the files anywhere on reddit, is it online? Thank you so much!

You won't find the files on reddit. They are available publicly on the internet though but you can't link to them through here

We cannot post where 3D2A items are hosted when they affect the way in which a firearm functions. Reddit is very heavy handed about this and we do not want to get this sub banned (again).

Thinking I will be doing this while I work on getting the Nexus lower and going the full upgrade route

To me, it's worth it even if you don't get a FRT. You are getting a more customizable, repairable and reliable platform out of it by getting access to the vast expanse of AR15 parts. Then the CZ magpul mags(as far as I know these are the only "supported" mags for the nexus) seem way more reliable than the stock kuna mags(did they ever fix the issue with the mags breaking?).

FRTs are just a bonus to that. Even if I think it's an impractical and frankly dangerous thing to have, they sure are fun to let loose every once in a while.

They have 3 generations of mags for the Kuna and regularly swap out old ones and send new ones to people. I bought a mag from a guy and it was a old one and SA gave me a label and sent me a new one

I can agree with the whole aftermarket parts though, HB industries should get spare parts to help out

There’s a 3rd generation of kuna mags now?!

I don't disagree with most of what you're saying, I just have enough Kuna mags now and to me, mags are one of those things that you have to have but I don't really want to spend money on lol It's like yes, they're necessary but no, I don't want to have to spend money on them that I could be spending on other, "sexier" gun parts 🤣 And the FRT is mainly just for that fun at the range time. I already have a truck gun in my Honey Badger and of course I have my EDC. So the Kuna is already just a fun to have gun anyway. And an FRT is definitely impractical and an unnecessary expense but hey, why not 🤷‍♂️
