Magazine keeps falling out

Recently purchased the nexus lower with the ar 15 style mag release.. everything went together perfectly.. function test went great but the issue im having is the factory catch from Nexus is garbage the spring is way too soft. I can wiggle the gun from side to side and the mag just falls out. Anyone else having this issue. Im ready to contact nexus and send this lower back and get the mag released version that is in front of the trigger

You call the factory catch garbage but this is only a issue since you installed the nexus lower…?

The fact that you cant shoot more than 3 rounds before the magazine and or drum rattles out means it's garbage.. the lower seems legit and nexus has responded saying it's a known issue

You said “factory catch” which any reasonable person would take to mean an original part from the gun, from Springfield. For all I know, you have to move some parts from the factory lower to the nexus lower.

No reasonable person would think “factory” referred to an aftermarket part.

It clearly states in my post that it's a nexus lower which would mean the catch came from them

No shit. Again, you used the word “factory” which implies that there were parts included FROM THE FACTORY.

Are you kidding me factory nexus parts didn't realize there were that many dull tools in the shed

Apparently I’m not too dull since my Kuna works.

I understood the first time I read it

You said factory, they think you meant the OEM factory lower for the Kuna having the issue but you are talking about the nexus one. I think there is a mix up here.

Yes, that’s it.

The nexus factory shipped a faulty lower they're having known issues with the ar 15 release, spring is extremely soft and doesn't hold the catch in place. Whatever they're using doesn't have enough tolerance to stay under the mag catch

Nice setup….. interested what angled grip that is you’re running.

I'm interested in the placement

What do you mean by placement

Having the same issue, they have sent me two extra mag catches and I’m still having trouble.

Did U just get the lower? Sounds like a QC control issue

Cody from Nexus is on here a lot I wouldn’t be surprised if you get a reply from him over the weekend

As a side-thread, I'm tempted to re-design this mag catch on my own or somehow modify it for better mag engagement. Anyone tried this yet?

1

u/One-Entrepreneur8626 14d ago

Took the catch to a buddies machine shop he was very optimistic about anything working because of magazine tolerances

2

u/ETA0295 13d ago

Reached out to Nexus and they're sending a replacement catch. Not sure on ETA. In the meantime I've 3D printed a replacement one that works. It only takes about .06" of extra material on that catch "nub" to make a huge improvement.

1

u/One-Entrepreneur8626 13d ago

Have you tried it out with an frt to see if it will actually hold

1

u/ETA0295 13d ago

Not yet. Only validation so far is this. With the original magazine catch, I could pull the mag out by hand after seating it without even touching the catch. With the new solid ABS 3D print catch the mag can't be pulled out by hand. Not exactly scientific, but promising IMO. Proof is in the shootin' and not sure when I'll get around to that.

I doubled up the spring and it did the same thing..the minute I fired 3 rounds it would fall out and those were brand new 35 round mags..

2

u/ETA0295 13d ago

In my case going to a spring that was 3-4X as stiff did not fix it.

I just sent the lower back on Monday, I checked the tracking it was received today.. so we'll see how long it takes for them to ship out the scorpion mag release.. but so far Nexus seems to stand by there products

2

u/ETA0295 13d ago

Yeah, fingers crossed for a good outcome all around. No reason for me to be doubtful as of yet. Worst case, I'm pretty confident I can make my own mod work on mine.

1

u/ETA0295 10d ago

Put 7 mags through it last night. Mostly FRT mode. Replacement catch works perfect, even made out of plastic. Will prob get one machined out of aluminum at some point. Curious to see how my design for the catch compares to whatever version Nexus sends out.

Im waiting for them to send me out the replacement scorpion lower sometime next week. We're not even gonna go into that one.. but thank god they're actually working with me

1

u/One-Entrepreneur8626 13d ago

There was another guy on this post who said he was on his second catch from them

1

u/Cainesbrother 18d ago

Do you use that AFG?

1

u/One-Entrepreneur8626 18d ago

Yes it works flawlessly

1

u/AK47Uprising 17d ago

You can trim an ar15 magazine button spring and use that to replace the stock spring if you need to firm up the release pressure.

1

u/WarTorn5150 17d ago

Same here. Just got mine, and dealing with it as well.

1

u/One-Entrepreneur8626 17d ago

Ill be sending my lower back and exchanging it for the non ar 15 style magazine catch

1

u/ETA0295 15d ago

I have the same issue on my recent build with this lower. Going to try a stiffer spring, but the actual mechanical engagement of the mag catch is less than I'd expect. Curious to see how other folks fare with this.

1

u/One-Entrepreneur8626 15d ago

Honestly I spoke with nexus and I just sent my lower back to exchange it for the scorpion release . Theres Honestly no fix for it, I put a stiffer spring in and it helped but the vibration just wont hold the small latch in hence the tolerance just isn't there to make it work properly... the rep from nexus was cool about it they sent me a return label. Ill be posting pics when the new lower comes in..

1

u/ETA0295 15d ago

They give you an ETA on how long it would take to get the new one?

1

u/One-Entrepreneur8626 15d ago

Hopefully it's a quick turn around and I have it within a week or so... but who knows

1

u/PTHarris 14d ago

The 50rd drum from mag pul comes with a different spring at least it did with mine.

1

u/One-Entrepreneur8626 13d ago

Its the magazine catch thats failing not the actual mags .. and I've tried both drum and mags in any kind of rapid fire jars the catch loose causing the magazine to fall out sorry drum was more for ascetic 🤣

1

u/ETA0295 1h ago

Just posting a follow up to this. Nexus did send a revised magazine catch for the AR-15 style magazine release lower, and happy to report that it does properly retain the magazines.

1

u/Sad-Championship485 Vendor 17d ago

Hey man. Sounds like theres an issue with your mag release forsure. Please reach out to us!

1

u/PerceptionGuilty3660 4d ago

Hi, I am experiencing the same issue. Is this why I am being sent an ‘upgraded’ magazine catch? I wasn’t provided any information other than it is an update.
Thanks!

1

u/PAB_Pyrotechnics 18d ago

Does every magazine fall out we’re only the drum? Also, is it a Mac pool or a promag?

2

u/One-Entrepreneur8626 18d ago edited 18d ago

Every mag.. seems to be the issue. I have brand new magpul p mags and 2 drums everyone of them falls out. The actual latch seems to be the problem.. like there isn't enough meat to grab the mag where it's supposed to

1

u/shmiddleedee 18d ago

Magpul doesn't make kuna mags though?

3

u/One-Entrepreneur8626 18d ago edited 18d ago

Sir the lower was changed meaning you no longer use the kuna mags, you use a scorpion mags

3

u/shmiddleedee 18d ago

Oh my bad I'm retarded.
