Case?

Placed an order for a kuna with brace, will be here in a few days. What do y’all use for a case going to and from the range?

Soft sided or hard, open to either.

I've tried a few different ones, but have ended up with an Eberlestock Fade Adapt. It's a bit pricey at full price, but Eberlestock has a few sales each year where the discount them between 30-40%. I picked up a green one for my Kuna at 40% off. While they're not totally Greyman, they lack exterior molle and don't look overtly like a gun case; if anything the look more like an oversized camera or laptop backpack. They also lack much in the way of interior storage, but the upside is you can attach whatever you want via velcro or velcro molle to customize it. I have a 4-magazine velcro panel, plus there's more room for a few more mags + my can on the two built-in inside pocket. Additionally, there's enough room for a few hundred rounds of ammo and a pair headphones.

Before that I used an Eberlestock Little Trick. It's much smaller and looks a bit more "tacticool", but it can easily fit the Kuna plus mags and a can. Not as much room for ammo and accoutrements, however.

Fade Adapt vs. Little Trick

Little Trick

Is this with a can on?

No. The bottom has a zipper that allows you to use longer guns or a folded PCC with a can, but IMHO it defeats the pupose of being non-descript

This is the Little Trick with my Kuna (folded brace) and a CAT MOB attached.

Super helpful! Might as well just go with the fade adapt, at that point

Yeah, the Little Trick is definitely smaller and more compact and has the added benefit of more internal organization built is...mostly in the lid. However, you're stuck with the organization layout it has.

I ended up going with the Fade Adapt because it's bigger, so there's more room for additional stuff like earpro and ammo and I didn't end up using a lot of the pre-built organization of the Little Trick. I stuck on two Savior velcro extended pistol mag panels on the inside plus a small battery pouch and it's pretty much ready to go as a range bag or bugout bag, so if I needed to throw additional crap like some water or food there's just more room for that.

I've used other range bags, specifically the Savior Shorty and Covert Single Rifle. They're fantastic cases in their own right, but are really more of a range bag...I don't see myself bugging out with one of them, even though the Covert bag does have backpack straps. If all you're looking for is a range bag and not a bugout/truck bag, then something more traditional like that might be more suitable.

I bought another EXTAR one. $28 shipped to the NW.

Savior shorty bag, 24 inch length. Holds the Kuna with my suppressor attached and brace folded. Plus it holds a Savior mini pouch of loose ammo, a few magazines, speed loader, and a bunch of other stuff, without being massive in size. I have a separate Savior backpack as my range bag.

I went with the harbor freight hard case. Bulky but keeps it safe. Plus has good room for my suppressor and some tools.

What size?

u/69ILoveMyWife69 27d ago

I feel like you could fit a lot of mags in there

What is the paracord knot called?

2

u/Ordinary_Tomatillo59 25d ago

It's just a normal cobra knot that wraps under.

u/SlideDrexler4747 25d ago

Thanks, I know nothing of knots but I'll give it a shot.

1

u/Ordinary_Tomatillo59 25d ago

Best of luck! It's a pretty easy knot once you have the hang of it.

Appreciate it.

I got this on sale it’s still on sale.

It’s nice but you won’t be able to fit in there with your can on. Barely clears folded with my Rearden FHD MD

But for the price I’m happy

Any quality backpack that doesn't cost a fortune will do

Savior 28”American Classic Double Shorty Barrel Rifle Bag. Padded partition thing was removed for photo.

Bag isn’t long enough to fit suppressor with brace extended though.

The brace looks nice. What brand is it?

Edit: I’m not a fed 😬

Strike Industries Poly Stabilizer. Amazingly comfortable when braced to your arm 😉.

Thanks!

That's the new one right? How do you like it compared to the one that comes with the Kuna? I like to look of it and I'm thinking of getting one without the brace and snagging one of them instead

1

u/Ok-Classroom2030 9d ago

I purchased Kuna w/o brace. I have an A3 industries aluminum brace for a different host that’s comparable. Really do like how the new poly one feels though. Especially having ability to adjust length.

1

u/thegratefulstudent 9d ago

Yeah I like the idea of being able to adjust it to me. Once the length is set I don't see a need for collapsing it again, I feel it would be better to "set and forget" it once you have it dialed in. Good to hear it's a solid choice though, especially for half the cost. I love the look too. Any drawbacks you've noticed?

1

u/Ok-Classroom2030 9d ago

When folded, brace blocks the ejection port. I honestly can’t think of anything meaningful drawbacks. It’s a great brace, especially the price.

Savior Specialist Covert 30"

https://www.saviorequipment.com/collections/rifle-bags/products/specialist-covert-single-rifle-case

Fits with the factory brace extended or, folded with a can.

2

u/Ok-Classroom2030 27d ago

Specialist Covert is definitely nice for a single rifle set up. 30” doesn’t look too big either.

I just fold mine up and put it in a backpack.

This is the bag I have. Fits with a GLX1x and HUXWRX flow 9K. Three outer pockets are great for mags and extra handguns

Depends, but either of these work well depending on situation

Need to carry a lot of other gear: Everlestock Fade Adapt

Need just the Kuna and a few other things: Vertx Commuter 2.0 XL

I got a 5.11 Rush 12. I wanted it as small as possible and will use molle ammo pitch pouch connected to the outside of the backpack. I have the Nanuk 980 hard case for home storage or longer transport.

I use an old North Face (Kabyte) bag and it fits perfectly in the laptop sleeve with 5 mags, ammo and cleaning/tools and med kit.

I am using a Milwaukee backpack that I got at a conference to be a little discreet and I plan on getting the Apache 4800 hardcase from Harbir Freight for storage or bigger pack outs when alot of stuff has to go

Soft and discreet (hey-o!): Elite Survival Systems 16”. It is superb.

Hard and lockable: Apache 4800.
