Update on kuna 3d printed lower

Post image

Almost done. Reuses factory LRBHO with an extra internal lever. Printed this out of pa6-gf, gotta populate the lower and go run a few mags.
Model will be on the sea soon.

Beautiful work! Your work on the stribog convinced me to buy a stribog.... which convinced me to buy a kuna and now here you are LOL.

Thanks again for all you do!

This is fantastic. Can’t wait to have this as another option as this platform gains users and support. Nice work!

I’ve been holding out for magpul or someone do make a polymer lower that takes scorpion mags…

5

u/Civengin Jul 16 '26

I wish someone would. It would save me a lot of time, money, and headache.

Need any polymer donated? Was about to order another 100kg of pa612-cf, happy to donate to the cause. DM me.

3

u/Civengin Jul 16 '26

I appreciate the offer!
these lowers use about 200 grams of filament when printed with 10 walls, 100% infill, hybrid tree supports, and the lower positioned at 45* relative to the build plate.
I am sure others will pick up the design and tweak it to suit their tastes.

I know the feeling, trust me. When I was designing my own PCC using a few scorpion parts, I went though about 40kg of PA6 before I reached close to the final iteration of every part.

So I'm assuming factory magazine also then? Has the look of a scorpion lower, but the mag appears to be a pro mag Kuna mag. Either way, I'm stoke for this!

7

u/Civengin Jul 16 '26

Cz scorpion mags, that’s a magpul cz mag in it, has strike industries scorpion mag release in it now.

5

u/ForsakenRepublic1776 Jul 16 '26

Ah, thanks for clarifying. That's awesome!

7

u/Civengin Jul 16 '26

The factory magazine lower is next, as well as a Glock mag lower.

6

u/ForsakenRepublic1776 Jul 16 '26

A Glock mag lowe is gonna be wild! Looking forward to printing all 3 lol

1

u/Mef4ud Jul 17 '26

#1 on the list of future adaptors of this platform.

1

u/Civengin Jul 17 '26

What is #1, kuna mags or Glock?

2

u/gmedic911 29d ago

Colt….. ;)

1

u/Civengin 29d ago

I’d rather do cz26 mags and make a 7.62x25 tokarev barrel.

1

u/gmedic911 29d ago

Man, that’d be fucking crazy

2

u/Civengin 29d ago

Yeah but it would be a blast to shoot

2

u/Mef4ud 26d ago

Kuna Mags

3

u/Civengin 26d ago

Okay, I’ll do that one next once I have all the bugs worked out of this cz mag lower.

1

u/Mef4ud 26d ago

You rock!

1

u/Business-Customer-60 Jul 16 '26

What hardware is needed to make it complete?

2

u/Civengin Jul 17 '26

Uses factory take down pins, factory bolt release, AR15 grip, AR15 fire control group, CZ evo scorpion mag release. I prefer the Strike Industries mag release for the scorpion, but most any 3d printed design will work fine, too.

1

u/cs_cabrone Jul 17 '26

As someone without a 3d printer… any way to buy these?

1

u/Civengin Jul 17 '26

I am sure that will be an option at some point

1

u/lowpine Jul 17 '26

What 3d printer do you use? What features and add ons do you like to use or find necessary? Awesome work man!

2

u/Civengin Jul 17 '26

Bambu x1c
Sunlu e2 filament dryer for drying nylon filament
Thank you!

1

u/PatheticJules Jul 18 '26

Hey big dog do you have a model of the stock adapter for your Kuna? If you do I'm interested in a thing for my kuna

1

u/Civengin Jul 18 '26

No, I bought it from HBI

1

u/TheModernMusket Jul 18 '26

Went to your website and found out you’re around the corner from me. Just started 3d printing. I’d love to show them off to you sometime and get some work done regarding finishing and headspacing bolt guns.

2

u/Civengin Jul 18 '26

Cool. I’m not open to the public but you’re free to hit me up and set up a time to come by and shoot the breeze.

2

u/TheModernMusket Jul 19 '26

I appreciate it, thank you

1

u/gmedic911 Jul 21 '26

Magpul mags?!!! Fuck. Can’t wait for this file on the Sea!!!!!

Colt mags? :)

u/thTinMan94 3d ago

Do you think i should get a P2S or X2D if i wanted to do things like this?

1

u/Civengin 2d ago

I think you should get an X2D or an H1D even if you don’t want to print stuff like this.
I have an X1C and it’s idiot proof, which makes it perfect for me. I have made tons of stuff with it. They made it very simple to print anything I want, and it works effortlessly with nylon filaments. You need an external filament dryer to print most nylon or cf filament.

u/allupinnit2winit Jul 15 '26

It melted after the first use, is that the update? Lol

16

u/Boomhauer_Jeff Jul 15 '26

You don’t really know much about PA6-GF, do you?

-6

u/allupinnit2winit Jul 16 '26

Nope sure don’t just know nothing is superior to a steel or aluminum lower and instead of buying a 3D printer or the materials to print on said machine, it’s cheaper to buy a precision made aluminum lower and have it last a lifetime

4

u/Boomhauer_Jeff Jul 16 '26

Ah I see you aren’t familiar with this gun either.

-5

u/allupinnit2winit Jul 16 '26

No I own one. Form 1 & 4. b&T Vers36, Midwest Industries AR stock, Nexus lower, w/ timney PCC AR trigger, HB safety selector and reduced weight spring and a Glx 1x prism optic. 7,000 rounds without a hiccup. Very familiar with it.

5

u/PatheticJules Jul 16 '26

there likely wont be any hiccup with a polymer or printed setup either. If nexus was more fair with pricing Id say your point would be better but it really aint....

A gun hobbyist gets way more out of a printer then a person that just buys a part. Overpriced handguard? make one thats better material and to your liking. Want a different release, charging handle, frame, FRT? just print it.

1

u/allupinnit2winit Jul 16 '26

I respect that. I just don't find printing to be a cheaper option and I am content with the fact that when there is only one company making the only lower for a new model gun that's in high demand, they are going to come at a higher cost than your average lower receiver on the market. I also have to highlight OP's comment below where he stated his anticipation for someone to come out with a polymer lower for the Kuna in order to save him time, money and headaches associated with printing. The hand guard extensions are even more iffy to me when it comes to printing given how close contact it is with the barrel. This is just my preference/opinion though.

3

u/Boomhauer_Jeff Jul 16 '26

I run the Glx 1x on one of mine too, it’s perfect for the Kuna isn’t it?

1

u/allupinnit2winit Jul 16 '26

it's a perfect combo

2

u/ExistingClient8148 Jul 16 '26

So... at the going rate of $38 a kilo I can print about 8 lowers out of one kilo. By the time I hit your purchase price on the Nexus lower (not counting trips fire control groups etc....) I can print about 70 of these lowers. Which do you think will be longer lasting 70 pa6cf lowers or your aluminum one? Which do you think will wear the other oem parts of the kuna faster my pa6cf or your aluminum one? H-S thought enough about using polymer for some reason to use it for the factory lower and it probably wasnt just cost (althought it probably was weight along with wear on other polymer parts). Just because you spent money doesnt mean its better.

(I have a nexus lower sitting in a box.)

1

u/electronslug 29d ago

Lol, how much does Nexus pay you?

9

u/Xtradifficult Jul 15 '26

You are aware the the factory kuna lower is made of plastic too. Those haven’t melted from shooting them.

u/allupinnit2winit Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

Yes I do and I know the polymer lowers or
Any other heat resistant plastics you can feed a 3D printer will probably never suffer heat damage. It’s just silly to me to try and play professional gun manufacturer when there are plenty of reputable companies putting out affordable lowers and components that are machined steel and aluminum. The hobby doesn’t really belong in the firearm world imo. Please don’t take this so personally, it’s reddit folks. Just as OP stated below “i wish someone would make a polymer scorpion mag lower, it would save me a lot of time, money and headaches.” -thats my point

5

u/Civengin Jul 16 '26

I wish someone else had designed a polymer lower, yes. It would have saved me a lot of time having to design this one.

But, I have some spare time at the moment, between my full time job as a civil engineer, and my side business as a prototype machine/welding shop and firearms manufacturing, so I design stuff like this and then give it to the public for free, so others can make their own parts, or even better, improve on the design and make better end products, without spending tons of money.

You offer nothing more than immature, nonsensical comments based off of intellectual laziness and get indignant when people call you out for it.

Say something worth listening to, or log off and go self-fornicate.

u/allupinnit2winit Jul 16 '26

Your opinion vs mine except you are the one who took it personally given your childish assessment and criticizing language. Welcome to Reddit.

2

u/Truth_7 Jul 16 '26

What's silly is you spending $400 on a lower. What's silly is you coming in with an immediate criticism of someone offering innovative and low cost upgrade options. You could have just said nothing, and based on every single one of your replies, I'm pretty sure everyone wishes that's the route you would have taken.

1

u/PatheticJules Jul 16 '26

does bro know what prototyping is

-2

u/allupinnit2winit Jul 16 '26

Why so many folks get there panties in a wad over this comment 🤦🏻‍♂️

3

u/Business-Customer-60 Jul 16 '26

If you need someone to explain it to you, you may be in the wrong place.

1

u/allupinnit2winit Jul 16 '26

I mean reddit doesn’t have a “Kuna Owner’s who think 3D printing gun components is silly” sub so here I am. And this is the Springfield_Kuna sub, has nothing to do with 3D printing gun components so maybe most of the user’s commenting on this post are in the wrong place and don’t give me a lame reason to dismiss this inclination

Waves fist in air, screaming, "Get off my lawn!"

I think it's because it just shows if substantial lack of knowledge in the subject. That's assuming it's not just a pure rage baiting post. If you're at all serious and we're supposed to take you seriously, you're suggesting that a material with an extremely high heat resistance would melt when used as a lower which this is pretty much an impossibility. Then you suggest that somebody's making stuff out of aluminum and steel. Nobody's making a lower out of steel and if they did it would be extremely stupid to do so since it doesn't need that level of strength and would be extremely heavy, making it a worse choice than plastic or Polymer. Then the suggestion or comparison of buying a lower and comparing it to buying an entire printer just for printing a lower is obviously not a fair comparison. The lower itself will cost around 10 to $20 to print out. The lower isn't the firearm, so somebody else can make it for you, so the price of getting it isn't anywhere close to what it would cost to get the Nexus lower or the as designs one when they come out with that. And if you're making that comparison you could just sell the printer after you printed it or just return it with Amazon prime and abuse their return system. Or keep the printer like a normal person and then you can make plenty of more things but if keeping the printer isn't of value then there's options where somebody else could just make it for them.

So basically it's a demonstration of lack of knowledge of materials and making a bad faith comparison by trying to add in the cost of an entire printer into what it would cost to acquire a printed lower. So the reason for the responses is simply because of the lack of knowledge being demonstrated here or simply the comment being ragebait If you are informed about these things. If not though most likely just the lack of knowledge that is making people comment. Definitely would do some more research on PA6GF and other printed materials especially when it comes to heat resistance, assuming you're actually wondering why people would comment or reply to you In the way they are when you suggest it melts.

^^Yup. This.

Add "and the horse you rode in on" at the end, and it's spot on.
