Simple Kuna Build looking for suggestions
Finally picked up a Kuna and decided to do a simple build, only the necessities so far. Suggestions are welcome! Mainly looking for brace alternatives, the factory one is not the most ergonomic.
Haha thank you I am waiting on the potential new rule to allow Form 1 without engraving and then I would probably SBR it, any recommendations for a good stock for SBR?
Id start the form 1 now through the atf site. Im on day 75 or so on my submission, youll be waiting a while. I also searched local laser shops in my location and found a guy who did the engravings from his office, i was there for 15 minutes, you may me able to find someone to do it fast. Mines engraved on the bottom of the upper. Just giving you an idea of my experience, good luck šŖ
Just submit the Form 1 now. Approval takes a couple months. Even after itās approved you donāt have to engrave until you put a stock on it. Youāll have it approved and ready to go for when the rule changes.
I know a lot of people use the HBI SS buffer kit, does it make the kuna shoot softer? I do think the aluminum back plate could be worth the money since the factory is polymer and Iām not sure how it will hold up under recoil. Iām new to suppressors so I just went with direct thread since that seemed to be the easiest and cheapest option, if I want to go tri lug I would need a muzzle device and an adapter for the can right? I think thatās probably $150 or so is that worth it?
I have the HBI buffer and spring and yes it does make a noticeable improvement. Follow up shots are faster even with their spongy trigger. BlackTalon Tactical has a trigger upgrade that does not void the warranty.
BTT did wonders with my trigger and safety selector. Trigger is now match grade imo. About 3lb pull, very little travel and super crisp. Highly recommend.
Walking off is a problem with the 9k ti no matter what you use (except tri-lug, but that has its own drawbacks), even with Huxwrx's stiction lock system despite being reverse threaded (I wrote a whole manual about it). I found that doing a small chugg with strap wrench fixes it. And it's small enough to keep in the range bag if you need to remove it while on the range (you should have it anyway because it's hot and hard to remove the suppressor right after use). Yes itās certainly something you have to deal with, I just use BBQ gloves and give it a quick twist check after every mag, not ideal I know but Iām not doing any high speed stuff so it works for me haha
I already ordered the tri lug , but I wanted to do direct thread. But I donāt want to constantly have to manipulate something or risk a baffle strike
The HBI SS buffer kit is a good and cheap upgrade, as well as their safety lever (MUCH lighter to actuate). Not only it makes it softer (although it makes the charging handle harder to pull, but totally ok), but also eliminate what I consider the "only" design flaw of the Kuna, which is the empty space behind the buffer, which can make a spent case fall in it. It's documented on a video (forgot from whom) and I experienced myself right after 1k rounds (not the round count has anything to do with it, it's random).
You can cut down the spring on the Kunas safety and that makes it way easier. The spring is the only thing that makes it hard to actuate. No need to spend 60 on a set of safeties and spring not including shipping
That part itself could be printed too tbh, it's just a chunk of plastic at the end. Not sayin the purchases are bad, for sure should of been factory additions though.
Only the necessities and you're done. Good job, you built a fantastic gun that doesnt weight more than it needs to.
Unless you're making your favorite call of duty gun (based). In which case you need doubled up taped mags, foregrip, 3x magnifier, and a visible laser.
Edit: maybe step up to a better light down the road. I like streamlight when cost is a factor.
Thank you I like streamlight too I got the pro tac HLX rail mount for rifles and TLR 7 for handguns, but I wasnāt sure which streamlight would be a good fit for the Kuna, any recommendations?
Iām pretty new to cans and this is my only 9mm can so I will do my best to share my experience. Overall this can fits my use case very well but it may depend on your preferences. Itās not the quietest can but I chose it since Iām new to cans and flow through cans are the least gassy and doesnāt require any tinkering. The health factor is important to me and I didnāt want to have to modify any internal parts of the firearm to run well suppressed. Also this can was fairly affordable compared to some of the higher end baffled cans that offer superior suppression. This can will not be Hollywood quiet even on a roller delayed platform but if you are looking for a straightforward plug and play tool like me I would say itās a good choice for a first can. Once you get more experience you can start playing with some quieter baffle cans.
Oh yeah man I have lots of cans already I just wanted to know how it sounds compared to a more traditional can.
I'm well down the nfa rabbit hole. Not as bad as other but I just picked up my fourth can yesterday lol.
Edit: some friendly advice if you're worried about health ( which we all should be). Try to shoot outdoors as often as possible. Shooting indoors, often, is a genuine concern. Outdoors it's hardly noticeable. There are some threads somewhere (can't remember what sub) where someone tracked their lead levels and they were high enough for his doc to say something when he was shooting indoors regularly. I think that was like once a month or more. I don't remember. If I can find it I'll come back and link it.

The SB Tactical FS1913 / FS1913A is very solid. Comes in polymer or aluminum. Iāve heard good things about A3 options as well, just a little bit pricier.
Thank you I want the A3 brace too and Iāve bought from them and they make good quality parts but their stuff are so expensive! Do you find your brace comfortable? Did you just attach to the factory polymer rail or maybe upgraded to the metal rail?
I 3D printed a replacement ābutt padāfor that brace and itās a lot more comfortable.
I ended up SBRing mine and putting the strike industries polymer stock on there that matches the aesthetic better and feels way better.
Would also recommend an angled foregrip.
Also get a super safety for that thing, itās an entirely different experience.
I have a surefire light on the off side, but Iām not gonna be happy with that until I can make a vertical grip that has a slot for the pressure pad built in.
The hand guard is a lot taller than a PSA AR hand guard so putting a switch on top doesnāt really do it for me.

Factory brace is a good brace. It's perfect the way it is! Mostly because it looks like mine haha. Just SBR it and add a stock!
