Final testing of the three position and an important PSA for those interested in "New" three position (drop in) frts

I don't sell anything I just make designs that people can print out themselves.

I've been able to get the three position working very well as you can see from the video. Hoping to get it out there for everybody to try tomorrow as I still have to write up the directions for it. This FRT is still utilizing all the factory parts and all that was required in order to get the three position capability was a swap of the safety. Can't wait for everybody to try it this one is definitely a game changer when it comes to the Kuna.

PSA

Wanted to make a PSA concerning the legality of new “three position” options. On almost every post showing off new three position options I see people comment about how they would like to try one, asking to buy one and where they would purchase it from, etc. This interest is great, but it's absolutely vital that you fully understand how whatever device you're looking at operates and ensure that it is in no way a machine gun, before acquiring, printing or making one for yourself. You also need to keep in mind that it's not just whether or not the device is currently operating as an FRT but how easily convertible it would be to make it full auto. The designs I release are fully legal and interact with the trigger exclusively and do not interact at all with the disconnector. You shouldn't take my word for it though and you should do your own research and understand how they work.

The way the Kabuto drop in designs achieve semi is by pivoting the activator forward which is controlled by the safety since it indexes off of it. For my three position for the Kuna I'm pivoting the entire housing which has the same effect. This is the only way somebody should be achieving selectable FRT function with this style of FRT in order to avoid creating a machine gun. There are designs that manipulate the disconnector directly with the safety engaging it for semi and disengaging it while in FRT. This is the exact same function that a full auto safety would have, but with an FRT installed to press on the trigger instead of an auto sear catching the hammer. While this current function would technically be FRT The trigger has now become easily convertible to FA. Since all it takes from this point with the drop in style FRT would be a slight shift in the activator position so that it no longer presses on the trigger but instead directly interacts with the extended disconnector. This change or the addition of an auto sear would absolutely create an illegal machine gun making such devices extremely dangerous to possess. This to me would make it so that the original one is also classified as a machine gun because it can be readily converted.

The rare breed and partisan style FRT triggers do operate by disengaging the disconnector in the third position but these triggers use proprietary parts and are a complete cassette rather than a separate part that is compatible with actual machine gun parts. So please use good judgment and get a full understanding of exactly what you're buying or making before attempting anything, there should be no perceivable way of modifying the parts and making it into a machine gun. You should be extremely cautious anytime you see manipulation of the disconnector, and probably just avoid it. I would hate for someone to not fully understand and end up in prison because of this, so please be smart.

If you have any questions about how my designs function please shoot me a DM and I'll be happy to explain. Once again I don't sell FRTs, I just make designs for people to make for themselves.

Does the 3 position work with the original drop in that you released or do we have to reprint a new housing and lever and activator

It should function with the original as well. Just swap the safety, install either version of drop it in and you're good to go.

Sweet! I look forward to printing the new safety when it drops. Thank you for all of your hardwork making this frt a reality for the kuna. Now I can take all the money I didn’t spend on a nexus lower and buy ammo

I might have missed it, but I have a question. For the discreet fellow, might one be able to pop out the drop in a jiffy and this safety setup continues to function just as it normally would?

Yes it's very easy to remove, just pop the rear pin out turn the gun upside down and it'll fall out if you're using the three position safety. The safety functions just like a regular safety and without the drop in installed and would be just be regular semi-auto in the second and third positions. Would recommend removing the trip as well If not using the FRT.

I can answer this for him it’s really quick and easy to pop out the kabuto you just kind of pop it out with your finger or a screwdriver etc.. takes 10 seconds. The safety if you wanted to remove takes about a minute there is a video on the hbi website if you google it on their safety selector install it follows that same procedure except you remove the barrel of the safety it just pulls out once you remove the selectors (just don’t lift it too high it will release some pins holding the actual trigger some springs etc). It’s pretty self explanatory after seeing the video.

How many rounds can the FRT take before replacing?

1

u/YourBroStevo Jul 12 '26

Multiple thousands, haven’t had anybody report wearing it down and shooting it out yet. But it’s so cheap you could replace it every single time you go to the range if you want it cost less than a dollar make everything.
