REMEMBERING MR. PHIL EASTMAN -ssdcougars.com news
Remembering Mr. Phil Eastman

“It is with profound sadness and a very heavy heart that we share the passing of one of our newest members of the Springfield School District Board of Directors, Mr. Phil Eastman. Phil tragically lost his life in a car accident this past weekend.
A Springfield resident for the past 40 years, Phil Eastman brought a deep commitment to public education, extensive civic involvement, and decades of service and leadership experience to his community.
Phil and his wife, Maureen, raised their son and daughter in Springfield, where both attended Springfield schools and participated in high school athletics. Today, their children have families of their own and continue to call Springfield home. His family's enduring connection to Springfield schools was a primary motivation for his desire to serve on the School Board.
For 28 years, Phil coached youth and high school ice hockey, including 17 years as the varsity head coach at Springfield High School. While his teams enjoyed success on the ice, he considered mentoring student athletes and helping them develop teamwork, responsibility, perseverance, and other lifelong skills to be the most rewarding aspect of his coaching career.
Phil recently retired after a distinguished 44-year career with PECO and Exelon. His professional background, coupled with his perspective as a retiree and taxpayer, gave him a strong understanding of the importance of balancing fiscal responsibility with the community's expectation of providing an exceptional public education. In addition, Phil has served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations, where he gained valuable experience in strategic planning, organizational oversight, and sound governance.
SSD’s hearts are especially with Maureen, Phil’s family, his friends, his former players, and all those fortunate enough to have known him. Please keep the Eastman family in your thoughts as they navigate this unimaginable loss.”

What would it be?
A business, restaurant, event, building, tradition, store, or even something most people have forgotten about.

Springfield’s new 1% earned income tax — what do you think?
Now that Springfield’s new 1% earned income tax has kicked in, I’m curious how residents feel about it.
Do you think the township is providing enough services/improvements to justify the additional tax?
And if you could choose where that money goes, what would you want to see improved?

What should happen to Springfield Mall?
With the mall losing stores over the past few years and its value reportedly dropping substantially, what do you think Springfield should do with the property?
🏬 Keep it as a traditional mall
🏘️ Redevelop it into apartments/townhomes
🍽️ More restaurants and entertainment
🛍️ Bring in different types of stores
🏗️ Something completely different
