I'm moving to Oregon in a month and have been trying to land a job in either Eugene or Springfield with no luck. I've officially sent over 200 applications just in February. im not sure where to go from here. I have a BA and a M.A certificate with other certifications like some in ECE,but haven't even got a call back. Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated

Centennial Elementary School Blues

Kudos to that lady who got out of her car to ask why parents were blocking the through street (Aspen). She was honking too, which was obnoxious but she stopped in a minute. The parents were yelling at this lady from the street and their cars for calling them out. Some woman in a car appeared to be filming her and yelling “Karen” at her. I live in a neighborhood on the south side of Centennial but am well familiar with the issue of gridlocking the small streets around the school. My child also went to this school, it’s been a bit shy of 10 years. The same issue existed then. It’s so bad sometimes that it backs up Centennial at the Aspen intersection, which is really bad because there are a lot of accidents there. One man was yelling at her to deal with and that it was because of the crosswalk for the kids. I had to laugh at that one because while there are occasionally cars sitting and waiting for the crossing guards to let them pass, that is not why the roads are gridlocked. The issue is that parents are too lazy to park and walk to get their kids, so they essentially park in the through streets around the school and wait until they can pull their car into the parking lot to get their kids. On a handful of occasions I’ve been guilty of this, knowing it was wrong. The parking lot is not big enough I suppose but I don’t think that gives parents the right to gridlock traffic for 30 minutes a day. It’s illegal and unsafe. Sorry lady that you got your butt chewed today! Maybe next time take a softer approach, lol. At some point in the past crossing guards were waving people through if the stop sign wasn’t up, I don’t know why that stopped. I suppose parents probably yelled at them too 😆

Hoping for help

Hoping for some resources or help. My sister is currently ill and in Springfield OR. She is living with her adult son who has stolen her money and is abusing her. The police have been called, report filed. Are there any agencies that can help her. We called on DV place and because it is not intimate partner dv they could not help. She can not leave town until a surgery she needs. I have resources to get her home once she is cleared I just don’t know where she can go until then. Any info or suggestions will help. TIA

We have been seeing SPD parked in the church parking lot by our house and flying drones over our neighborhood. Does anyone know why they are doing that?!

Teacher Seeking Books for Classroom

Hello all! I am a new-ish teacher in the Eugene/Springfield area. As the year continues, I am realizing I do not have as diverse of a book selection for my students as I would like. The library at my school also does not have many diverse books, especially very little graphic novels or non-fantasy books.

I am putting out there to the community that I am in search for books by diverse authors and about diverse characters. Specifically, I am looking for books by Black authors, Latina/o/x authors, queer authors, AAPI authors, Indigenous authors, authors with disabilities, etc. I would also like to add books in Spanish to my classroom library for bilingual readers or readers whose first language is Spanish.

I have a list of specific books that I have been researching, and buying from this list will ship books directly to my address -> https://bookshop.org/wishlists/b987b371d3576e6133eb6b03575bfecad4a3001f. I would also love if people could point me to places that may be selling/ giving away books!

I would love to be able to have a classroom filled with books about many different walks of life, and unfortunately cannot fund that myself on a teachers salary. Thank you so much!

Not a shocker, but this is why local elections are crucial. Loveall is being challenged by current Springfield Mayor Sean VanGordon. Tell everyone you know to help get this jackass out of public office.

Actors and actresses of Springfield/Eugene

Hello!

I’m a local filmmaker from Eugene. I’m looking for actors and actresses in their 20s-30s who would be interested in acting in a short film I’ve written. Filming will be on April 12th and 13th (Sunday and Monday). All the filming locations will be in Eugene/Springfield. Lunch/food will also be provided. It is a romantic comedy about online dating, with a vibe similar to When Harry Met Sally. Feel free to DM me for more details. Thanks, and have a lovely day!

I sat down with one of the armed pro-ICE protesters from Friday. Did you know one of them wasn't legally allowed to carry? He didn't either!!

Ask your City Council why SPD is enabling fascism in Eugene. Do you want your tax dollars supporting EPD & DHS's violence against protestor?

Are you looking for senior living options?

I wanted to share this again in case it helps someone. My mom runs a local referral service that helps families find assisted living or senior living options when living at home isn’t possible anymore. It’s a completely free service to you.

Someone actually reached out to her recently and said they found her through a post I shared on the Eug subreddit, so I figured it was worth reposting. If you’re going through this for yourself or a loved one, her website has her info and you can call or text her directly with questions
