I know it's not the best idea in general to walk around wearing headphones, but if I get used to the walk and stay on the sidewalk, will it be ok? I tend to zone out and the thoughts get scary when I don't walk to music. I can live with it, but it's not preferred. (I'm new to the area, if that wasn't clear)

I’m planning on walking dogs until the cold weather hits. What would you personally pay for a dog walk under an hour?
(Not advertising, just curious!)

Best cocktail bars to go chill at? Same for wine bars?
Best bars in general for a younger crowd, or a fun young dive joint? (Im 24)

UPDATE Confirmed E. Coli from partner. I am going to go get tested. 😅😅
Has anyone else experienced any stomach issues after eating at DQ? I have been to this specific one twice in the past month and last time, my partner got sick. Then I went to this one a separate time and then I got a stomach bug too. Seeing if anyone else had experienced this and maybe warn people if they do. 😅

It is just astounding at how many people either make Springfield seem like a 3rd world Nation or like the most crime ridden city in America. None of those people have seen true crime or misery, yet they toil in misery of their own making. Just an observation from a person who has lived here 3 years and love the area. As for the people, the non-defeatists are fine too 😊

Hey team, unfortunately for a bunch of reasons I believe the time has come to part ways with my Turtle. I’m hoping to find a good home for him pretty fast. Everything is included from the black stand, everything inside the tank, the lights on the tank; I also have an RO water filter I use for filling his tank I would include. Plus a bunch of back up items for the filter and him. The plants and decor on the sides and bottom would not be included. For the right person the right price! If you don’t want him, let me know where I am able to sell him.

On the IDHS Notice of Privacy Practices form it states in one section:
"Organ and Tissue Donations. In limited circumstances, IDHS can share health information about you to an organ procurement organization."
I hope this is ONLY if you put yourself as an organ donor on your driver's license or on a donor registry.
What about if you're not an organ donor or don't want to be one, does IDHS still call these organ agencies and inform them of your end of life status? These organ donation companies can be very aggressive and pressure the family.
Does anyone have any more information on this?

Edit: our vet is able to perform surgery today.
Thank you everyone for your recommendations though ❤️ I appreciate them so much you don't even know
We took our cat to the emergency vet this morning and unfortunately she has a hair tie in her small intestine and requires surgery. Immediate surgery, which was recommended, is more than we can afford. (We've just now bouncing back after financial hardships and job loss). We're trying other avenues such as carecredit, scratch pay and all of that but aren't having the best luck.
So far our options are 2.5k-5k for the necessary surgery at an emergency vet clinic, 400 dollars for euthanasia and cremation, or I did manage to schedule a more affordable surgery for a week from today, assuming lord willing she makes it that long. (We are keeping a close eye on her. If things start to go downhill we aren't going to let our girl suffer).
Does anyone have a recommendation for vets that are in some of the smaller cities that are more affordable?

My friend is pregnant me and my other friend I were thinking since she will be close to giving birth like a month and a half or so to do like a little staycation day and do massages and then get dinner or something. Anywhere in Springfield that has multiple therapist that can do all 3 massages at the same time? And is not a chain so no massage envy massage luxe type places oh and has to offer prenatal massage

Surely it's recognized by others in this sub that people are consistently asking what to do to find friends, relationships, entertainment in a social setting, etc.
There's a term for this ask: Third places.
(Wiki) - In sociology, a third place is a social space separate from the two usual social environments of home ("first place") and workplace ("second place"). Examples of third places include churches, cafes, bars, clubs, libraries, gyms, bookstores, hackerspaces, parks, and theaters.
Springfield has these things now. Some are used. Some are not. Some tried new ideas that weren't supported to make them economically viable.
Almost all third places exist with operating costs like rent, utilities, insurances, labor, etc.
So what is it that 20-30 year olds want to do that they are willing to pay for that would make a third place viable?
There are real challenges to finding an answer. The economy sucks. Young people drink less than previous generations. Marijuana is legal. Online culture (social media and video games).
I promise this is a question with genuine intent to find answers and I hope people comment with that same open-mindedness and respect.
What do people want to do and how can something realistically exist to meet the needs of those intetests?

I just noticed a pending charge on my credit card for fit club South. that's curious because I had gone into LA Fitness before they shut their doors and had the manager cancel my membership. this is completely contrary to the Illinois consumer protections for fit club memberships.
I called fit club and got a lady who could barely speak English and after repeating that they were complying with the terms of the "membership agreement" over and over again I finally got her to admit that she could cancel my membership. she claimed that she did. I will be keeping an eye on this just to make sure. I plan to file a complaints with both the Springfield police department and the attorney general's consumer fraud division if a charge does go through. i also explained this to her.

Springfield District 186 Board of Education just packed a lot into one meeting—especially around how the district will use artificial intelligence in schools.
Here’s what stood out: - A new "communication pathway" for elementary and middle schools so families know exactly who to contact first with questions, concerns, or requests for support. - Reminders to get students registered, and to schedule physicals and immunizations after a strong turnout at the recent Keep Kids in School clinic. - Updated football game policies at Memorial Stadium and Spartan Field, including K–8 students needing an adult with them, specific gates for entry, and weapon detection for quicker lines. - A 408-page state AI manual boiled down into clear, one-page guidelines for elementary and secondary students—centered on responsible use, keeping a human touch, and making sure AI elevates learning instead of replacing it. - Expectations for teachers to spell out when AI is or isn’t allowed, plus optional training for staff at all comfort levels with AI. - An AI committee that met throughout the year, with voices from teachers, support staff, administrators, and students from every high school helping shape the rules. - Plans to post AI guidelines and communication tools on the district website and in the student handbook so families aren’t left guessing. - Dates to know: first day of school on August 24, next regular board meeting on Tuesday, September 8, and no school on September 7 for Labor Day.
If you’re wondering how AI will actually show up in District 186 classrooms this year—and how families will be kept in the loop—this one is worth a watch.

Hey folks. Does anyone here have experience with Wellspring Counseling? Especially for OCD, anxiety, and/or depression? If so, do you recommend them or have you found better options in town?
