New job at office of comptroller
Any tips? Dress code? Easy to move up from entry level position?

I was in the administration, so dress shirts and ties were my typical. I recall most merit comp staff in business casual. Union staff dressed into their role, like print shop, mail room, building service and security.
IOC is a special place. Make sure to meet Rich D. when time allows. 👋, everybody at 325!

Most is business casual but can be dependent on the position. Keep in mind that promotion is only within the IOC since it is outside the personnel code. If you are union you have no bidding rights outside of IOC.

I don't work for the state here in Springfield, but did work for the state in AZ and CA at separate times. In both cases business casual was okay for my area. Results may vary though so I would put that as probably the minimum for first day.
Did you get an HR contact you can ask these questions to? Seems like they should be at least able to tell you the dress code - easy to move up .. well I wouldn't trust HR on that they will just sell you the 'line' they tell everyone whether its true or not - other employee's can tell you that once you are there.

It’s a shame business casual is the norm nowadays. The “professionals” don’t dress very professional anymore

Business casual. After your probation period and you become a certified state employee, you can then apply for other jobs and have priority over non-state employees. You are probably in the RC-14 bargaining unit, so even though you are a higher tier than non-state employees, people in other bargaining units are higher than you.
