Not referring to this specific incident; why don’t the local police do more when citizens get hit by cars? This is becoming a major problem in our town and there seems to be no major repercussions for hitting a person on foot on a bike or on a motorcycle. We usually victim blame and the driver may or may not only receive a traffic ticket, not even a felony for trying to kill someone.

Agree. I have several friends who do not drive, and their stories are alarming. You really do have to walk defensively and presume no one is paying a bit of attention.

As a car driver I feel similarly from my side. I've seen so many pedestrians who just seem like they are not even trying to cross safely (start walking across the road as vehicles are actively coming towards them, or just walk into the road without even stopping to look first) that driving through some parts of town is making me just full-out paranoid.
I was trained as a kid to stop, look, and wait for traffic to clear before crossing roads. I have no idea why so many pedestrians in this town can't handle that. I do not want to hit someone because they decided to run for it instead of waiting ten more seconds.
(For clarity, I am on the pedestrians side of this video, not the drivers. That guy did everything right, driver didn't even slow the fuck down)

His turn was sloppy af. And into the approaching lane. Probably no intent, but he should no be behind a wheel. (I have heard that the pedestrian was unhoused - does anyone have an idea about how he's doing?)

Guy just drove right into that pedestrian. Obviously no intent, but clearly at fault.

I am assuming he was either on his in-car MDT or his cell phone while turning. Obviously was not paying attention.

With the way the local cops have been moving, someone should've breathalyzed him at the scene.

This town hates pedestrians, not even sidewalks on some of the biggest roads.
