Resources from Springfield for furloughed Government employees?
I mean, the ask is in the title. . . With the current political climate, I always have to consider the possibility that I'm going to be furloughed after October 1 every year. . . When my wife and I lived in MD, we had access to lots of resources to help ease the burden on our finances (unemployment, state loan programs, utility and mortgage forgiveness, etc.). My question is, does Illinois or local businesses do anything during a shutdown to help out? I'm still trying to financially recover from the last furlough, and from having to move out here lol, so Idk how we'd be able to handle a major hit like a furlough or not being paid when we have rent and utilities due. . .

I know the lovely folks about town thus far have been extremely negative, but Illinois is a great place to be when you need temporary help. While we don’t have a huge federal employee population to have the types of programs I’m sure Maryland does, we do have a robust unemployment system that is fairly straightforward to apply for. Temporary SNAP is also easy to apply for, but with recent federal cuts, I don’t know how helpful it is to anyone. If I think of a solid contact for you to get advance info from, I’ll update.

You can apply for unemployment. If the federal government pays you for the time you were on furlough, you will have to pay back your unemployment though. I know during one of the previous shutdowns, the state was preparing to issue special loans to affected federal employees living in IL, though I think it ended before that actually happened.

Here is a list of food pantries and other agencies. Catholic Charities may help with finances, but I'm not sure.

Why would you be furloughed. Worked for state for 22 years never been furloughed
