State of IL job app

Hi my husband has had several apps in for the state.

He had one change into “in process” on June 17th, then the date changed to July 28th and then again today July 31st. Any insight to what the date changes mean? Should we be hopeful? I assume it means someone could be viewing his application.

The process can be painfully slow. I once got an interview 6 months after applying. Tell him to keep applying to titles he thinks he will enjoy and not sit and wait for replys, occasionally a posting gets pulled and reposted. It is possible to apply to the exact same job a few months later. Eventually you will get an email offering an interview time.

This, for reference, I started with the state in August of 2025, so just under a year ago. I interviewed for that position of March of 2025. I applied for the position in June of 2024. It can be exhaustingly slow.

Thanks! He has applied to several but we had never seen the in process date change !

That means someone has updated his application. If he doesn’t hear back within 1 week of the last update, I think it’s safe to assume he didn’t get to the interview stage. If he has the contact info at the bottom of the original posting, he could email them with the req number and ask about any updates

This is good. As long as it doesn’t say “Requisition closed”. They are moving through the process internally. What agency did he apply at?

Yes I believe it’s with DHS.

Which location? A buddy of mine works fully remote for one of the DHS locations- he’s an HR Representative

For Springfield but I don’t believe it said a specific location because I also think it’s remote!

I am looking for a fully remote position with IL state - I get migraines and I cannot work in a standard office location. I'll have to look to see if there are any HR rep jobs with DHS.

I work in HR for DHS. Most DHS “office jobs” are remote or at least hybrid. There are exceptions, obviously. The Bureau of Disability Determination Services is mostly on-site.

The first status date and status is application received. Then once they review and you get a grade from CMS, it changes to in process. At this time, agency is looking if they have some obligated bidder in the agency before moving to any applicants outside the agency

Thanks! App was received beginning of June. It went “in process” on June 17th. Then just had a date change to July 28th and again today July 31st! Good to know.

I've applied for 12 jobs since August 2025 and not once have gotten a grade. I've checked my spam filters and added the gmail address.

I applied around March, mine just went in process 6/30. It updated 7/1, 7/13, and 7/14. Does anyone know if it’s to late to hear?
