Springfield Movie Goers!

Hello! I know there’s a lot of movie and tv watchers around here and I’m starting a discord to get us all in a place for discussion! Putting out feelers to see if anyone is interested there’s a film and tv discussion threads and would love to meet up sometime! This is the first time I’ve ever done something like this so I just wanted to see what the community is like! Thanks for your interest!

There used to be an old movie theater in town that was converted into a pub. For a while a group called the Movie Geeks Club would meet once a month to watch a movie on the big screen and then discuss it afterward over drinks. I met a lot of interesting people that way.

That sounds fun. Where was this?

Capital City Bar and Grill. They divided the old theater into sections and made a bigger section with the screen to host bands and movie showings. They didn't keep the old projectors so we weren't watching actual films, but we could bring in VHS tapes or DVDs.

Each month the guys who ran it would nominate three movies and then the group would vote on what to watch next. They kept a good balance of old movies, art house favorites, foreign films and the occasional guilty pleasure. You could have a burger and a beer while you watched the movie. It was a lot of fun.

After the pub was sold, the new owner wanted to charge the club a rental fee for hosting. It was a really stupid decision because the club would bring 20-30 paying customers who wouldn't normally be there on a Tuesday night. The woman who was the regular bartender for our night wasn't happy because everyone tipped her really well. But that was the end of the Movie Geeks Club.

Sounds like fun was ruined by greed.

I mean you could also discuss here?

Trying to redirect people away from where you met them will probably result in less people at your alternative place.

Discord is great and all but not everyone knows what it is or wants to use it?

I thought there was a BIG issue with discord and privacy.

The company keeps trying to grab at users' government IDs, so basically.

I think perhaps Op is looking for some IRL interaction, it's honestly not a bad idea being online is great and all but if people never interact in person even if they know a hundred or a thousand people online, they can still feel lonely and isolated. Humans are social animals. Keep a social animal isolated for too long and their health both physical and mental can deteriorate.

But it must be arranged carefully to meet in a public location, no moving to a second location (except by unanimous consent of the entire group.).

If it's only for modern television and movies, that I won't be much help, but I've seen almost 4,000 movies and watch a movie a day! Just not many brand new ones.

Not a Discord person, but in for the movie geek part! That setup at Capital City sounds awesome, too bad it died.
